R300 k clutch

I don't think there is an average for clutches. Especially in a car like the 7 ..... everyone drives differently. Replaced mine when the engine and gearbox out of the car for other work .... as it would have been daft not to. That was probably at around 50k. I hadnt driven the first 17k. Springs on the clutch plate wear as well as the friction faces.

Hi Nigel,

Changed mine at 30K just because the engine was out. I do drive like an old woman but the original seemed to have no appreciable wear compared to the new AP I purchased. As I had the new one I replaced it anyway. Std 1.8K series.

If you do take yours out and need an emergency replacement, I still have the original and just around the corner from you but expect you would want something new for your motor.

Could it be the cable / clutch arm? I also have a spare S/H clutch cable if you want to try that.

Considered changing mine at 18K and about 12 years old, as above just because the engine was out. Also reputed to drive like an old woman. VVC 160 so not a million away from R300K spec. I measured up the old plate:

New Thickness: 7.1mm
Worn Thickness: 5.61mm

Mine: 6.95mm

So pretty much exactly 10% used after 18K miles.

I agree there is probably a huge variation depending upon usage and driving style but at least there's a bit more data to throw into the melting pot.

I had a plate fail at about 8000 miles - the friction material disintegrated on one side. I Replaced with the AP uprated version and been fine ever since. As mentioned release bearings are a known weakness so wise to change if engine comes out. I seem to recall there is a modded version available from Burton or one of the other ford specialists.

If the feel has changed I'd be inclined to check the cable both ends and the routing. At the pedal end both lock nuts should be together and not clamped either side of the ferrule in the pedal box. Also, they've been known to fray at the pedal box end.

Regards
