virden
I had completed a tame 30 mile blat in my XF with no problems, all guages showing normal. Car was switched off and some twenty minutes later I went out to find water all over the garage floor. Lifting bonnet showed the top rad hose (5 yrs/ 12k miles old) had split from end to end and liberally spayed the engine bay.Question: is this a "normal" sh** happens failure, or does it suggest a head gasket has failed? Plugs, oil and exhaust pipe are all normal colour. What else should I be checking?
SM25T
Hopefully a failed hose. Replace, refill and try.
7 wonders of the world
Coolant temp always rises post switch off as theres no airflow to cool anything anymore and the resisdual heat soaks into the cooling system - increase in temps results in increased pressure too - and pop goes the hose.CC OE hoses are poor quaility to say the least all but one of mine showed searious cracking after only 5 months - changed the lot for silicone form SFS (we get club discount too)
Terry Field
Definitely replace top and bottom hoses as a minimum with silicone hoses. I did mine many years ago and have had no problems, whereas I used to replace rubber hoses at least annually. Terry
