Phil
Hi all I have a 1990 7 running a 2.0 zetec, it has run brilliantly for years on the webers but it has started to play up today, spitting back through the 40s or possibly the mounting plate "O" rings. I have found that one of the idle mixing screw springs is broken so the screw is free to move compared to the others and out of balance so I need to order some new springs. The 40s are floating on washers and cup washers but I do not know how tight these should be or if I should have "THACKERY" springs? Help
zetec
Get some new rubber washers x8 ( holding the carb on) Then new O rings for the gap between carbs & inlet. Once they are replaced & the fit between carb & inlet is good ( not over tight) Then you can balance & tune. They 'should be fine then. Also check the filters within top of carbs ( near fuel inlets) & all jets are located. I did have a split in my o ring 😳 & that made it run bad
zetec
If any doubt bring bag of bits & car to my house . I"ll help you do them & then we"ll check balance etc (Chobham-Surrey)
Phil
Thanks But what are thackery washers, look like springs, do I need these if I have the rubber bits and cup washers?
Klunk
Hi Phil , No, you don't need Thackery washers if you have the rubber washers and cups as these are the Thackery replacement. Thackery's are prone to breaking over time so best avoided. Regards, Giles Edited by - Klunk on 21 Apr 2014 21:19:
Phil
Thanks for the help, remembered Burton Power sell weber parts, found the idle screw springs and I have ordered fresh plates and rubber washers, will replace the lot. Phil
Birkin S3 ZA.
It might be worth getting some of this here works very well at removing old fuel deposits. Mixed with water and leave to soak for a day or more. Chris
John Hughes
I would use Misab plates rather than the plastic plates with o rings that can be ingested by the engine. Edited by - John Hughes on 22 Apr 2014 20:20:
