BBL
Thought I might be immune to this seemingly common issue because I'm about 70kg, but apparently not. Need to source some replacement rivets, but a search in Tech Talk did not yield a definitive answer, so I ask the following question: What size rivets are best suited to re-rivet the floor, please? 5/32 x 0.47? 5/32 x 0.53? 5/32 x 0.59? ...or some other size? My thinking was to determine the size of the original rivets and maybe use the next longer size so that it would hopefully be less prone to breaking. But I don't know the original rivet size, anyway. 6speedmanual
The length of the rivet will not influence its breaking. Upgrade to steel rivets and assemble with Dinitrol cavity wax. P
BBL
Sounds like good advice; thanks! Not sure I'll be able to find Dinitrol brand cavity wax specifically here in the U.S.A., butI can probably locate a suitable equivalent. Does anybody know what size rivets, steel or aluminum, are best suited to re-riveting the floor, please?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted December 13, 2013 Leadership Team Share Posted December 13, 2013 Sean, the steel rivets that Arch gave me to refit my (lowered) floor are 5/32" x 0.34". Stu.
BBL
Thanks! I'll source some locally.
TomB
Squirt Waxoil or similar through a tube with a hollow rivet head on it into the chassis member before rivetted.

BBL
Huge thanks to Peter, Stu, and Tom for your help! Found the rivets in steel, 5/32" X .37" size (close enough, I reckon). Oddly, the corrosion inhibiting cavity wax seems to be the hardest thing to locate around here, simply because rust just isn't that much of a problem. But I did find some (Noxudol) readily available. Cool. rutabaga Thanks again! Edited by - BBL on 20 Mar 2014 03:23:
BBL
Received the steel rivets and Noxudol 700 aerosol can today. After chiseling out the remaining few rivets, tomorrow will be a day spent exercising my forearm strength installing steel rivets. :)
