JonL
I have a Halfords Smart Charge 100 which can charge at up to 8A. I hope that I never have to, but would it be possible to jump start the car using this. The garage is straight onto a main road so it is very difficult for me to get our 'normal' car close enough to the garage (or my seven to the normal car) to jump start in the conventional way. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted November 11, 2013 Area Representative Share Posted November 11, 2013 Too much current will be drawn. I would keep a spare battery or one of the beasts designed as a jump starter.

jj48
But there are certain battery chargers that have a set position for starting a car!! Richard

Roger Ford
You can get special starter / chargers. This one from Machine Mart claims 180A output for starting. Not sure if they contain a battery or if there's a 2.2KW transformer in there. Not a chance in hell with an 8A charger though.
Felixgogo
Looking a the 'Smart Charge 100" - SC100 It is clear it is NOT designed to start a car, and would be damaged as SM25T rightlyy points out if you tried to do so. It is a trickle charger. For remote starting, one of the options Roger has mentioned would be fine - but that one looks like it needs a mains connection, so one like this: Remote Start would probably do the trick. BadBob
Hi Jon, Get yourself something like this battery pack. I have had a similar one for a few years and it's saved my bacon on a number of occasions. I got it from a local DIY outlet.
