John Hughes
I don't think it's needed with a 234 cam, will probably just be extra mass in the valve gear.
Birkin S3 ZA.
They are good at removing the side thrust from the valve and guide to stop wear, with your ali head it should have bronze or cast guides so wear should be much lower than the old cast heads. OliverSedlacek
Ditto that, roller rockers reduce wear on the guides. My guide life went up from approx 20k miles to 100k miles.
Roger King
John Hughes - spot on.
eric
So, nothing on the performance side ?
Roger King
No. The only way they improve performance is if you use the high lift versions with SOME cam profiles. The 234 is already a high lift design and in fact the extra mass of the roller set up can cause problems because of the high accelerations that the 234 family of cams put through the valve gear. eric
Thank you very much Roger for your very interesting explanations. Thanks also to Olivier, Chris and John. So I will keep the original valve gear.
andy couchman
When I installed roller rockers on my Kent, one issue was that oil didn't seem to get to the back of the shaft very well. I suspect it would be fine in racing due to G forces but when say idling in traffic my fear was that this could cause a problem. Also, is there an engine tune level where RRs do make sense? Roger King
Yes, they work well with older generation low lift, long duration profiles such as the Cosworth A8. You really need the high lift version though. I've never seen the point of the standard lift set because the standard rockers with steel posts and shaft are all but bullet proof. OliverSedlacek
They look pretty 😬 if you have to take the rocker cover off ☹️
