Old laptop to run Emerald software

Im currently running my Emerald software on my work laptop (Dell Inspirion), but as IT are tightening the restrictions on software and keeping a closer eye on whats installed, I need to make a back up plan.

Does anyone have an old / battered laptop siting in a cupboard that would make a good garage computer? Bare minimum requirements would be to be able to run the Emerald software and have a working comms port, but if I could get Blatchat in the garage via WiFi that would be an added bonus!

Budget - as cheap as possible, as Id rather spend the money on an iPad! *tongue*

Silly question: Does comms port mean Serial port or USB? Serial I've not got, USB I can possibly assit with, thou I'd image the batteries will be very .

Will you be able to find a copy of Windows to put on? I might be able to find an XP CD to load.

I'm WightBlatting this weekend, so will have to have a look on Tuesday if thats of any use 🤔

Yes, I meant serial port - rectangular port, bigger than USB. My work laptop has both, but I use the serial as thats what the Emerald cable has. My wife has just informed me her old PC laptop, running Windows Millennium is gathering dust at her Dads, so Ill revisit this if it doesn't work out *thumbup*
