Sandboy
How to without damaging Ali hub? Did rears a few years ago and remember just clouting them with persuader but these sit in a thin looking web.
Wrightpayne
IIRC thats what I did whilst they were still on the car then used a bush press to put the new ones in after 'feeling' for the splines on the stud being aligned on the hub (rather than cut a second set of grooves) IYSWIM. Stationary M25 Traveller
If the hub is off the car, put a socket around the head of the stud and either press the stud out with a g-clamp or hit it with a hammer. Usually pop out easily.
Sandboy
SM25T, that sounds an elegant solution so thanks for that.
ECR
Although I have a press, the hammer method above is definitely best for removal. I use the press to assemble ...
Sandboy
Thanks ECR, take some comfort from fact you use hammer but it still wouldn't feel right, sure the rears where steel so was quiet happy to use force but the ali fronts seem too delicate. Birkin S3 ZA.
If the hub is removed a socket and a decent vice works very well, A 6”vice will push 2 tons force with a bit of effort. And a load of flat washers and wheel nut to pull the new ones in again. Chris.
