Geoff Dixon
I am probably going to fit a 6 speed gear box to my 1.6 K series this winter. The engine has already been upgraded to around 190 bhp. Whilst the engine is out I intend to fit a lightened flywheel and uprated clutch. There appear to be a multitude of offerings re the flywheel (Caterham, QED, PTP etc.) and various sizes of clutches. The car is primarily used on the road with a few track days. What do you guys recommend?
V7 SLR
For simplicity and easy obtaining of spares, I'd suggest the R500 flywheel and clutch. Worcs L7 club joint AO.//Membership No. 4379//Azure Blue SLR No. 0077//Se7ens List Tours

Mike Bees
The R500 clutch is the same (AP) as fitted to the VHPD and some Superlights. The R500 flywheel is different (even lighter) from the VHPD/Superlight offering. Caterham Parts Dept. did tell me that the R500 flywheel can't be fitted to a non-R500 although I don't believe it. V7 SLR
Nor me Mike, particularly as I believe Johnty and/or Hoopy have one. Both started out with 1.6K engines too. John Howe
If you go in a mullti plate direct that takes you past QED be very careful that every thing you order is in writing and that you clearly state what car it is intended to go in and that they confirm in writing that it will fit! Been there... got the t-shirty etc etc JH Deliveries by Saffron, the 222bhp yellow Sausage delivery machine

Geoff Dixon
OK looks like R500 flywheel and clutch What difference do these make? Anyone any idea how much lighter than the standard flywheel the R500 is?
caterhamnut
[from PC] Agree on the QED comments. Their stuff can be good but needs careful matching as most of their k-series installation kit is for the Elise... 😬30,000 miles in 15 months! angus@tinyworld.co.uk Caterham pics here
