Robert S
Any suggestions for type brake pads that would suit trackdays and general use. I have a 3 year oil Sigma 150BHP standard brakes. After heavy trackday use, pads glaze with assocciated horrible grinding noise. Fitted DS25 compund pads 1 trackday (castle coombe) ago and they are starting to grind?????? Martin S.
Hi Robert, Whatever pads you have they shouldn't grind!....fade yes but not grind. I'd dismantle and check make sure you dont have anything rubbing against the disk. As for type of pad to resist fade you may struggle on a track day with standard brakes....but have a look at Pagid's and also some high temp competion fluid, I found Motul RBF600 to be good and not to expensive. Someone will be along soon I'm sure with more pad reccommends!
James_Russell
Standard brakes with ordinary DOT.4 are more than adequate. Mintex 1144 pads are popular. I suspect your 'Grinding' has another cause though- are your discs ok?
Stationary M25 Traveller
Have you checked your wheel bearings for play ?
Martin S.
I had fade with standard brakes and pads during an extended track session....maybe I was doing too much braking! I disagree that standard fluid is OK. I've experienced a very spongy pedal lots of times with standard (fresh) fluid, I assume due to the fluid boiling. Once the fluid had cooled down the pedal went back to normal. As soon as I switched to RBF600 the problem went away. Have to admit I only really noticed the spongyness after coming off the circuit.......but anyway all that has nothing to do with your grinding problem Edited by - Martin S. on 30 Apr 2012 14:35:
