rallyemerson
Am planning on doing my first event in the caterham next weekend and will need to put a timing strut on the car. On my rally car which I also from time to time use I used a couple of rivnuts into the bumper to bolt it on to, but I dont really fancy doing this especially to the GRP nose cone. What solutions has everyone else come up with ? I would rather not re-invent the wheel or try and come up with a bodge-it solution.
CB
the ones supplied to the Academy seem to be a "bolt through the grill" variety with a plate front and back (here). At least I think that is the idea...
Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 1, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted March 1, 2012 If you're handy enough, then its not too much bother to make one out of a bit of aluminium. Also available made from carbon fibre, or even cardboard. Template here and here.
Z3MCJez
Get one free from a former academist. And tie wrap it on, rather than faffing with bolts ... Jez
andy couchman
The original template went out with Lowflying many moons ago. Is it worth asking the editor to re-run it or one of Richard's updated versions? Andy
JEM
Quoting Z3MCJez: Get one free from a former academist. And tie wrap it on, rather than faffing with bolts ... Jez I have riveted the back plate to the grille which has two rivnuts fitted. The screw head bolts screw staight in, fixing the strut to the grille. I find this far quicker and easier than cable ties, fitted in seconds. Job done Jeremy
