oilyhands
I used self levelling screed/cement when I joined two rooms with uneven floor heights. A little tricky to work with but did a first rate job. Oily
virden
If you are goin for tiles, then provided your current surface is reasonably level, you shpuld be able to tile directly on top of it it without need for a skim coat. Go to the Wicks site, they are pretty good when it comes to floors
Sheds Moderator
IME the self levelling screeds are NOT tough enough to use on a garage floor without something over the top. As soon as you start with a vehicle and (worse) a jack, they will fall apart. The exceptions are the epoxy modified concretes that we use in food factories. These are brilliant, but Jesus, you'll cringe at the price. If it were my garage and I had a budget less than the Sultan of Oman's I would ensure the floor was sound, any bits that were cracked I would dig out until sound and repair (epoxy based conrete if I could get it at reasonable cost) and then give it 2 coats of floor paint, the first one being VERY well thinned down, just as a sealing coat. Budget for another coat of paint after a year or two.
peter clarke
Tile it, in white. Had mine for 12 Years and only one chip. Easy to clear, no maintenance, use white as you can see everthing, find what you have dropped and the light reflects nicely so you can see what you are doing!! zetec
Sounds silly but wot tiles are strong enough? I dont wanna do only to find they break up
peter clarke
most tiles, it is how you lay them that counts, need a flat floor to start with and even spread od tile cement or you have to lay down a suitable concrete base. Sure Wicks would advise. Tiles only crack if there is no support underneath
