Gavin H
I had the tiptop (a 2.0 tdi Audi) serviced on Tuesday. The service scheduled has 'oil change' ticked, but I just looked at the dip stick and it is as black as any old oil I have seen. The car has probably done 50 miles tops since - doesn't sound plausible to me that they changed it. Could it be that dirty three days after a change? Thoughts gratefully received before I go and give them a piece of my mind.

rj
Quoting Stationary M25 Traveller: Oil in a diesel engine gets black very very quickly ! Second that. The stuff that came out of my Passat TDi was black when I forgot to fit the oil filter 😳
RD
Our Tdi's (Golf & Passat); oil changed and the new oil is black within a couple of miles. Diesels just do this, totally different to petrol. So don't panic.
Gavin H
Thanks all - you've saved me making a scene about nothing 😳
Sheds Moderator
Yes, diesel emgines are fulll of carbon and the oil goes as black as the ace of spades from the off on anything other than a bew engine. Petrols are totally different, these days they run very clean. My scabby old Astra is on 102k and the oil in it is a year and 7000 miles old, it's still only mid brown. I'm impressed.
