glasgow
I like opening the doors fully (easier and look nicer), and when the weather permits, I love driving with no doors….. so, I am thinking of having 2 mirror mounts. One would be on the door and the other on the windscreen pillar here and here . Any Racetech mirror (e.g. here ) could be quickly swapped between the two mounts using a small spanner. This way, the door would be open fully as the mirror will be attached to it and when driving with no doors, I could easily swap the mirror Any suggestions if this is going to work? Has any one used it before? Ahmed
johnv
me too, I look forward to the answers!
lavena
If you look on Carbon-Bits you will see the same idea. The Racetech mirrors come as standard with a long bolt fitting that can go through the door. These are removed by Carbon-bits and replaced by the shorter studs that screw into the windscreen pillar. So if you buy the Racetech mirror you don't actually need this fitting. Andy RoadSport 175 SV
glasgow
Thank you, Andy... Yes, same mounting idea and better price.... As for the mirrors, i prefer the convex ones but with the small size of the mirror would the convex still work ok?
lavena
Have ordered a set from carbon-bits but still waiting for a reply - it's almost been a week, not sure what the problem is. so cheaper but no purchase yet! Don't understand the comment on "prefer the convex ones" and size. Convex will increase the field of view over flat glass. Stationary M25 Traveller
Convex is great on side mirrors. Even better on smaller ones !
glasgow
I apologise about my English ☹️ ..... was trying to ask if the small size of the mirror will make it difficult to to see the cars in the convex glass but SM25 has answered. Thanks A
glasgow
Andy, I phoned Carbon Bits on Friday, Steven said they are now only selling the carbon Racetech and stopped selling the plastic ones, however, he can still order the plastic ones for me..... I guess by now your mirrors have arrived. Have you tried them yet? - hope you are happy with them... Cheers Ahmed
myothercarsa2cv
Hi Glasgow, I've got 'Racetech' convex mini mirrors (from CBS, exactly the same) and the field of vision is fine you won't have any troubles. Everything just looks a little smaller! John _________________________ myothercarsa2cv Bugsy: '82 2cv6 😬 Talloulah '08 1.6K Classic
Alaskossie
I have found this to be the complete answer for rearward vision, if you are running with a windscreen: http://www.mirrorsforsevens.com/index.htm I use this panoramic mirror in combination with two windscreen pillar-mounted Spa c/f mirrors. The pano mirror works well, even with a SBFS bikini top or the full CC top up. Alaskossie
RoyH
Alaskossie, Are the mirrors tinted? Any issues with glare at night?
Croc
+1 for mirrorsforsevens. After some practice I have done away with the Spa side mirrors completely. Mirror is not tinted and I do not have any glare issues at night. Edited by - Croc on 30 Jan 2011 14:04:
glasgow
John, Thanks for your reply..... I will order these side mirrors tomorrow As for the rear view mirror, would the clips of the mirrorsforsevens be a "weak" area for water ingress especially when driving at high speed? Alaskossie
The clips that hold the mirrorsforsevens mirror are very thin, but strong. They make no noticeable change in the profile of the leading edge of the soft top. i have run in the rain at speed (80+ mph) with top up (including the SBFS bikini top) and had no water ingress at all. lavena
Ahmed, Was in the UK and picked up my Racetech mirrors. Eurospares were excellent - they had a web issue and the pillar mounts and aeroscreen mounts were switched - so I got the wrong ones. Next day delivery both times. Got back this AM and fixed them on. First impression is that they are small but much more fitting in style to the Caterham. They are cery easy to fit and unlike the std mirrors much more robust fittings. On the road it takes a little time to get used to the reduced vertical size but the horizontal view is fantastic. You get to see cars almost along side of you as well as linking into the rear view mirror. *thumbup* Andy RoadSport 175 SV
