Now imagine your like me , not bought a tyre in about 20 years...

Winter , Summer , Duragrip , Econogrip who has a clue?

Coupled with the fact I have to buy them in France??????

I need 4 x 185/60 x 14 for my Caterham for all year round use and would probably have to buy through http://www.allopneus.com/ or http://www.pneus-online.fr/ (who do Yokohama?) Budget £200

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

If you can get them from Dartford to yours, you can have 4 x ZV3s. Martin J kindly gave them to me after he binned his car *tongue* and I intended to use them on the Pug, then my brother went and bought some new ones anyway, so they're just sitting about.

Have you looked at 123pneus?

Problem is that most tyres are not made for such a lightweight car. You could look for some Kuhmo ecsta(?), Yokohama A539/540 or as mentioned A021.

Failing that, look at the Yokohama website

For France for a distributor.

Thanks for such a kind offer. the problem I have is that to have them couriered would be about £20 per wheel, or to pick them up when we are over with our trailer would take my daughters baked bean space in the trailer. Anyone coming to France????

CageyH

The Goodyear F1 at 123pneu look good , they could be current favourite as I can't find any discount Yoko dealers

Thanks to all

terryp, with the exchange rate as it is even French caterham owners buy their tyres from camskill or blackcircles in the UK.

you know club members have a discount with blackcircles don't you? *wink*

Thanks to all!

As I have a bit of a budget its looks like

Goodyear Eagle F1 for 212€ (4)

or

Avon ZV3 fro 188€ (4)

Both cheaper in France as delivery is less

Any preference?

PS Anyone want some original 28 year old antique Goodyear NCTs with only 9000miles on!!!!!!!! No cracks or damage , in fact only changing as I've been told that old tyres can be dangerous???

CageyH

It won't see any wet weather as I can't get in with the hood up, well with a lot of difficulty.

How much better than my nice old NCT's

Too be honest there are no cracks, no degradation , nothing.

Thanks

Terry

and will probably be better
(I missed out the be).

Think about what speeds you will travel at, and if you are happy on tyres that are very old.

I would change them as a precaution.

However, personally I would go for something softer than either you have listed - A021 fit the bill if you can get them. I run CR500s, but these are expensive and not available in 14". I have never run tintop tyres on a 7, so can't advise you.

Have a read of this here.

Have a search and you will see why Michelin Pilots are called Pileups. ZV3's are similar.

They are not made for a light weight car.

However, the academy race on similar tyres (Avon Envoys I think), so as long as you remember you don't have the ultimate in stopping power, you should be ok.

If any tyre suggested will be any better than your current tyres, I don't know, however they should be safer.

I changed my Old Michelins after an excusion on a dry road that had seen a shower.

I took Yoko A021 from George Pooley - I got a mate to buy them and then picked them up when I was over there on business.

The difference in wet conditions was enormous.

The cost in france was astronomic for any thing. In fact i have just reshod the copmpany tin top for nearl 800 euros.

Also be aware if you buy them from UK - it took me ages to find a friendly garage that would fit them - I had a lot of Jobs Wrth discussions.

Having navigated through the Clubs Discount area (I think I must have a prize for that)

I've seen that we get 12.5% with Camskill so just got to convince my wife about the A021R's

Thanks to all , thats a good read CageyH about tyres, thanks, hence my change!!
