alextangent
I've been offered (yes, you know who you are ) a Ford rear axle to replace my Ital jobbie at what seems a reasonable price. Drums. So I'd need to change; 1. front hubs to Ford PCD (where can they be obtained?) 2. Wheels Anything else? Is the propshaft the same length an nose fitting? Alex McDonald Loud, louder, loudest... jonboylaw
Alex, You need a 3 1/4 inch flange (I think), the one from the ford Anglia. You could run with Triumph front and ford rear for a while, cheaper that way. What size drums do you have on the rear ? 8 or 9 inch?. I have my prop off at the moment so could measure it up, however I am running a 5 speed box. I don't suppose your axle has an LSD fitted does it ? :) Edit: Front hubs can be got from Caterham. philwaters
A write up of my conversion can be found here But basically: - Propshaft is shorter and with different flange - can send yours away - Brake lines need re-making or make up some flexible braided hoses - Axle needs suitable flange (Anglia) fitting + damper and A-frame mounts - The diff nose is offset so will hit the chassis under hard cornering - you will need to move the ali away on the drivers side. - Front hubs from Caterham - New wheels to suit Ford pitch. - Alternative is to have the LA hubs machined with Ital spacing to keep your current wheels and hubs. Think that is it. Phil Waters
elie boone
The Graduates racers will test a new halfshaft and hub set up,to get rid of all the old problems and if this will satisfy them they will have a batch made. I am not sure if the first batch will be available for non Graduate racers.
alextangent
Jon; No LSD, but I think you knew that Phil; interesting. That might be a good bit cheaper in the short term. Elie; these are Ital 1/2 shafts to replace the chocolate originals? Is the diff a point of weakness too? I'm sort of humming and hawing at this point; so many things I could upgrade, like 4 to 5 speed, Zetec, cycle wings... I'm already commited to doing the brakes/pads and the front suspension. And I'm a tight 🙆🏻 😬 Alex McDonald Loud, louder, loudest...
jonboylaw
Alex, My plans are on hold for a while... elie boone
Alex, the set up is with new half shafts and new hubs ( ital pcd ) it's a new design and should be much better, no sliding bearings anymore. You can have quality CWP, talk to jigsaw racing.
alextangent
Jon, no problem. Elie, thanks for the info. I'll wait and hear here what the Academy boys get sorted and see if it's worth joining a bulk buy. Presumably it'll be off season? Alex McDonald Loud, louder, loudest...
