Ben Fung
I've got to change one of my rear calipers and was looking at removing the handbrake cable. Is there an easy way to rotate the nylon adjuster in order to slacken the cable off? There's no way to get a hand to it and I remember that during the build we used a screwdriver poking at the knurls on the nylon adjuster, rotating it an 1/8th of a turn each time to tighten it which was quite frustrating and took ages to get done. Hoping someone can come along and suggest an easier method to either rotate the adjuster or suggest an another method of removing the cable otherwise it's back to the trusty screwdriver... Stationary M25 Traveller
Had this on a few Fords in the past. I use pipe pliers to hold one part and a screwdriver to rotate the knurled ridges on the other bit until the two parts separate, then it is easy to turn it by hand, especially if you pull on the cable outer to release the tension. Handbrake lever released of course !! Think it is the only way to do it. When refitting, don't forget to make sure the inner cables are seated properly on the pulley wheels ........ someone had problems with an MOT, and they found the cable was beside the pulley, and jammed. Titanium7
Screwdriver the way to go! Having the same problem myself, having found the nylon adjusters poorly threaded resulting in them slipping back down the cable when applying the handbrake. This is a new build as well! Bricol
I seem to recall you need the screwdriver to prise the two parts apart - then the nut will simply wind by hand up/down the cable outer as required - assuming it's not seized on the cable outer. shn7
Always found mine easy to reach and turn by hand from under the car. Pliers if the two parts are locked together just to break the seal but then hand job all the way. Steve. Ben Fung
Looks like I'll be resorting to the trusty screwdriver. Not sure how you guys are getting a hand to the adjuster though, I've not exactly got frying pans for hands but theres no way I can get them in to turn the adjuster. Guess it'll be an exercise in patience this evening.
Z3MCJez
I have this job to do too. When I put it together, I got a hand to it when up on axle stands. ISTR it being easier to loosen than tighten again afterwards when I did this last time, due to tension. Jez Build Photos
shn7
Ben I wonder if your's is in a different position to most. Mines on the left side of the diff almost at the top. The cable passes through a "hole" in the chassis at this point to which the adjust abutts. Steve. Myles
For the record, the adjuster is below the diff-line on the old race chassis and 'easy' to get to by hand if the car is on stands... 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester Racing 7s Ecosse™ 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
