GulfSeven
My OEM rear view mirror fell off in the heat today. The glue on the sticky pad melted...I've heard that all sticky pads suffer the same problem, and that some people have successfully used suction mount rear view mirrors. I know these fall off occasionally too, but at least they're easy to put back on again immediately if it happens. Can anyone recommend one?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted July 18, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted July 18, 2021 Loctite AA319 is an adhesive with a small piece of mesh that's a very secure alternative to the sticky pads, highly recommended.I do also carry a small suction mirror for emergency use, bought from a hardware shop in Vervier for €5 when my mirror fell off the morning I was heading to Spa! Probably available on eBay also.Stu.
Benton
Try some of this stuff to hold the OEM mirror on:- 3M™ VHB™ Tape. It's also used to attach my fairly heavy dashcam in my other car, and believe me once it sticks it sticks!, assuming you've properly cleaned/degreased the surfaces first
NS
Halfords sell one. Mine has been ok. Just make sure the glass is clean.
GulfSeven
Which one?https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-accessories/interior-car-accessories/summit-suction-car-mirror-327106.htmlhttps://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-accessories/interior-car-accessories/summit-suction-dipping-car-mirror-220855.html
ScottR400D
My mirror kept falling off. I bought some of the 3M VHB pads, cleaned the screen carefully, stuck the mirror on and applied two cheap plastic clamps for 24 hours. 2 years later it's still fine. JonT
I use a small halfords one which doesn't have the dip function, and is also wide angle - I think it's this one:https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-accessories/interior-car-accessories/summit-suction-car-mirror-327106.html
SM25T
I use the same Halfords suction cup mirror.
GulfSeven
What about if you have to drive after dark? Does the lack of dip not cause issues?
JonT
Drive quickly enough and there's never anyone behind you? In town I'll sometimes move it - I've still got the wing mirrors to look behind if needed. But I don't drive enough at night for it to be a problem.
