  1. I've had this problem several times on my SV. You don't have to jack the car up to fix the problem. If you look underneath, there are aluminum slots on the underside of the shield. The hose clamps (jubilee clips) that run through these slots are usually shot. Make sure to replace them with stainless steel units. This is a simple job. If the aluminum slots are broken off (as mine were), you can bypass them entirely by running the stainless steel clamps through the holes in the heat shield. You can do this in such a way that they are hardly noticeable. A permanent fix!
  2. Well, they look okay but they are very fragile.

    Boot floor

Thanks for the replies guys. I will definitely try the flashlight / mirror trick.

    Boot floor

I have been trying to remove my boot floor on my 2002 SV with out success. I thought maybe I could identify what kind of diff I have, but it looks like I'd have to destroy the carpeting to do it. Maybe some things are better left alone.
  5. If all else fails you can attach a velcro strip to make a nice seal. You need to use a strong glue to attach the velcro or else stitch it. It took me a while to get it right but my hood is pretty much airtight now.
  6. Well, I've used a GPS and at 70mph with th six speed I am reading 4000RPM. Does this mean I probably do have a 3.62 diff? I don't know if my wheels would be a factor here' but thet are 205 16 45.
  7. My wheels are 16" and my speedometer reads 5-7 miles high at 70mph.
  8. My car is a 2002 SV with a U.S. spec Zetec and a 6-speed box.It also has an AP Suretrac limited slip. I've never known if it's a 3.92 or a 3.62. Is the only way to know for sure to remove the boot floor so you can see it? Thanks to anyone who can help.

    battery acid

I've had this problem with all my previous batteries. The guy at the battery outlet here tells me I need a dry cell. We found a Harley-Davidson battery that will fit and has 700 amps vs 400 for the previous ones. It is working great so far. I just had to make some slight modifications to the battery holder.

    No Juice

Thanks, I'm going to have a beer (one) and then I'm going to try your suggestions.

    No Juice

I guess I need to update my Bio. I am in Pennsylvania, USA -- a long way from help!

    No Juice

I am now thinking the problem may be with the Master switch on the dash. If I move it around a bit and then turn the ignition on I get a very faint ignition light but still no headlights.

    No Juice

No I don't have one. The Ford garage says I blew a fuse, but whenever that has happened before it has just been one thing that doesn't work. This time there is no one home anywhere.

    No Juice

While replacing the brake light switch, everything went dead. Nothing at all will work including the lights. I checked all the fuses in the fusebox and could find only one that looked like it was blown. I replaced that but still no juice. Is there some other fuse somewhere else that I may have blown?

    Brake switch

I took my seven (2002 SV U.S. spec Zetec) to the Ford garage to be inspected and they tell me it needs a new brake switch, which they do not have. Can anyone tell me how to find the switch on the car? Maybe I can source one through Redline. Thanks to anyone who can help.
  16. Redline to the rescue. The switch for my 2002 SV (U.S. Zetec) turned out to be a Rover part and it arrived at my door in Pennsylvania one week after I ordered it. Pretty hard to beat that. It was an awkward job hooking it back up (at least for me). I have embellished the whole tale somewhat in the hopes that SWMBO will now think of me as a master mechanic. I guess the smart thing to do now would be to order a spare. (spare switch, not spare SWMBO)
  17. My 2002 SV has a blown ignition switch. The symptoms were that it would catch momentarily and then shut off. I thought it wasn't getting any fuel, but that turned out not to be the case. Since my engine is a U.S. spec Zetec, I thought I would be looking for a Ford part, but it is a Rover unit. On the side of the switch are the numbers 0202. I sent an E-mail to Red Line and told them that if they have it I would need some keys as well. I thought I'd pass this on in the hopes that it will be of help to someone else. Looking under the dash, it appears to be a simple job but we'll see.... If I jiggle the key in will eventually start, but then I have to keep my hand on the key for it to keep running.
  18. My SV is 12 years old and no star cracks. I used two coats of underseal.

    ARB adjustment

What effect would be produced by moving the ARB setting from the 2(second softest setting) to the number one setting? I am guessing that the ride would be better and it would make it somewhat easier to make the car drift. I do not use the car for te track. Also, is it a job that I could easily do? I believe that I am perfectly capable of screwing it up. The car is a 2002 SV with 16 inch wheels. Thanks to anyone who can help.
