  1. I have used one of Oily’s (thanks Oily!!) maps on my 150 BHP Crossflow quite successfully. I had to convert it from a 16 x 16 matrix to a 10 x 10 to suit the Megajolt which I did via some calculations. I have used it for about a month now and the car runs soooooo much better than before! I guess I need to get it on a rolling road soon to fine tune it but… There is a graph of the map on my web site but if you want a copy of the figures let me know. Tonys web site
  2. As Greg says I would go for the 244 cam. I went from a 234 to a 244 and it’s still pretty driveable, especially in a light car like a Seven. I would also agree on the 3D mapped ignition, its one modification I have done to my car which made a massive difference to the driveability and the fuel consumption. Some details on my web site how I fitted it for well below £100! Tonys web site
  3. Anyone suggest a way to get some locking wheel studs off my friends’ car? He came around over the weekend to ask if I could loosen the wheel nuts on his Peugeot. I had a go but the nuts are soooooooo tight! I tried everything; problem is the tool that’s used to get them off keeps slipping as soon as you put any force behind them. It’s the type of tool with 3 small pins that fit into 3 holes in the stud. I gave up in the end because he had already rounded the pins on the tool, so he went off to buy a new one. He came again last night clutching a new tool but even with this I can’t loosen them… The other nuts on each wheel were incredibly tight, I had a socket and bar with a 2 foot extension, even then I had to use a lot of force and they came undone with a loud crack! The studs are in a fairly deep recess in the alloy wheel so I cant try to knock them round with a punch, I also suspect they are quite hard which will make drilling difficult… I can’t heat them up because there in a recess in the shinny painted alloy wheel… I have tried proper penetrating oil on them for a couple of days; I have given them a good whacking with a stout drift and lump hammer… Due to the design I cant whack a socket over them as they are conical in shape to prevent this…. Any other suggestions before he takes it into the dealers?

Hi John I have an electronic distributor of the type you are after to fit a Crossflow. It comes complete with the side entry cap (new) the mounting clamp (it’s different to the Lucas type) and the wiring plug. These are simple to wire up having just 3 wires. They give a big improvement over the standard distributor. If anyone is interested I have a couple of these. I may also be able to help with the jets. Mail me and I will send you a phone number if you want a chat. Tony
  5. BTTT Thanks to those that have replied, we have a couple to look at.
  6. No problem Richard. I was trying to find the instructions I did for a DIY tracking gauge using one of the cheap laser pens? I can’t find it anywhere, Did i send you got a copy? I seem to remember mailing it out to a few people… Tony
  7. Richard Good to see someone made good use of my design! *thumbup* I just had a look at your spreadsheet and it’s the one I did a couple of years ago! I have now put it on my website, link below… Tonys web site Tony
  8. I have a friend looking to buy a Caterham; he has up to £10k to spend on the car and has the cash burning a hole in his pocket! Talking it through with him his only real preference is that the body is painted and not bare aluminium. The car will be used exclusively on the road. If you have or know of a car that might suit please mail me off line rather than post the details on here.
  9. Never done it myself, yet… A colleague of my wife has done it 3 times in as many months! She has filled the tank of her new diesel car with petrol! On each occasion she has called the AA who come and tow her to a local garage! Fortunately she seems to remember as she goes in to pay and has never started the car! On the last occasion the garage painted her filler cap pink to try and get her to remember!

  11. I found this site here useful when building a friends TC engine. The pictures of the build can be seen here tony Edited by - Tony L on 17 Oct 2004 20:15:50 Edited by - Tony L on 17 Oct 2004 20:18:13 Edited by - Tony L on 17 Oct 2004 21:03:37
  12. My installation is now up and running, it’s definitely one of the best modifications I have made to the car… the difference in driveability is substantial. I have not done any tests on fuel consumption as yet but everyone else who has gone 3D has reported a big improvement. Rather than have one of Bill’s full kits I just went for the board and did the rest myself. I am sure it will be a lot easier to install if Bills doing wiring looms! As regards mapping, I manager to obtain a couple of maps developed for engines with similar power characteristics to my engine. Unfortunately these were in a 16 X 16 table for so I had to do a bit of maths to convert to a 10 X 10 table which is used in the Megajolt. I was pleased to see that the map follows the plot of the original distributor advance curve when the throttle is more than two thirds open. I guess the advantage of 3D is in part throttle running where you have more advance than a mechanical advance linked to RPM only. My next step is to get the car on the rolling road and for some fine tuning although I have to say I am very please with the way the car goes as it is! I have also been able to leave all of the original ignition in place, save for disconnection the coil power lead and the plug leads which are cable tied to the top of the inlet manifold at the moment! I will be removing the original system as soon as my confidence in the Megajolt system is confirmed. If anyone is interested I have a few pictures on my web site and a bit of a write up, click here to go to the site. Edited by - Tony L on 12 Oct 2004 16:06:10
  13. Interesting thread! Off topic slightly but what would people recommend as a good oil to use in a 1979 Ducati 900 desmo? My mate runs one and still uses straight 50 oil in it! I am convinced he should be using a more modern oil. Can anyone recommend what he should be using and a few reasons why? I would love to be able to convince him!! Unless of course a straight 50 is the way to go…. Tony
  14. Thought I would give a quick update on the installation of the Megajolt to my Crossflow. I have been out in the car today after fitting the ignition over the weekend. All I can say is BLOODY HELL – what a difference! I have done about 20 mile in the car and the difference to the drivability is amazing! The car pulls much better, feels crisper and the power comes in much more controllably. I hope to get a few more miles to the gallon! As I still have the distributor on there I was able to do a “back to Back” test. It was simply a matter of re-connecting the plug leads and a couple of wires. There really is a tremendous difference! I am running a relatively safe map at the moment and will be booking the car in for a Rolling Road session soon, just to check its all OK Thanks to Bill and Nick for helping me out on this… I have made a few notes on my web site if anyone is interested, have a look here to take you to the site or try http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/jtccc Tony
  15. Oily YHM Anyone else with a Crossflow map they would like to share? I am in the process of installing one of Bill’s Mega jolt systems and would like to see some different maps to compare what they look like for different engine specifications. Thanks Tony
  16. Thanks Bill, Kit arrived today. Looking forward to getting going on the set-up! I will post on here on progress… Tony
  17. Just fitted a Polo radiator to my Westfield. Its very light (sorry I didn’t weigh it before fitting it) Cheap, fits snug inside the nose cone in an upright position and I believe its good for 200 BHP according to the Westy boys. Part number SER 2719819 from Serck Radiators who have branches nationally. It was £32+vat which seemed very good value. I can post some pictures if anyone is interested. Tony
  18. Reminds me of the time about 20 years ago when we were travelling in my mates RS 2000. He was extolling the virtues of the superior Ford gearbox and how much better it was than the one in my Lancia. He went on to say that the Ford synchromesh was the best on any car, so good in fact that he could probably select 2nd gear right now (we were doing about 80 MPH at the time) provided he kept the clutch down…. That’s what he did, selected second gear… There was a very loud bang and we coasted to a halt. What he forgot was although he kept the clutch down, the centre plate spun at a zillion RPM and disintegrated! We had to be towed home. When the gearbox was removed the clutch was in a terrible state and the debris had cracked the bell housing! The mechanic said he had never seen a clutch let go in such a way…
  19. Good news Bill! I am ready to start to wire up the unit as the throttle position sensor and crank position sensor are now in place on the car. Click here for a few more pictures of the installation. A few people have asked why I have the D shaped washer between the adaptor and the carb spindle. This is so that I can hold the washer with a spanner to get the spindle adaptor nice and tight without twisting the throttle spindle in the carb. Tony Edited by - Tony L on 20 Sep 2004 10:49:09
  20. I have fitted the throttle position sensor (brought from RS components part no. 319-310 £17) to my Webers today and also mounted the coil pack and made up the plug leads. Click here to see the installation so far. All I need now is the ECU Any date yet Bill? Tony Edited by - Tony L on 14 Sep 2004 19:51:37

  22. I have also been busy getting the car ready for installing a MJ system. I have acquired the coil, EDIS module and TPS. I have made up a mounting bracket and fitted the 36 tooth wheel behind the pulley. The wheel came from a Ford Sierra (K reg I think and with a bit of machining was easy to fit) The throttle position sensor is on its way from RS components (£16) so all I need now is the Mega Jolt ECU. Any delivery date yet Bill? You can see the installation at http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/jtccc Or click here Tony Edited by - Tony L on 11 Sep 2004 11:39:22 Edited by - Tony L on 14 Sep 2004 19:44:20
