  1. Well I'm glad it's not just me! I too have the same issue on my Duratec car which I assume is the same alternator as yours. So much so that I once got stuck in traffic in the dark and with my headlights on I very quickly ran the battery flat and broke down. at idle mine is just about OK but as soon as I put something electrical on in the car then I'm on borrowed time. Bit crap really, Caterham should have worked this out for themselves surely. Tom
  2. Ahh yes I know the one. Did you fail the noise test at first? If so what did you do to get it under the limit?
  3. With regard to the green car that had the crash, I was of the understanding that his front wishbone had failed and he'd lost a front wheel. Poor blokes only just got it as well, glad he was OK and insured though.
  4. Thanks to the club for organising this! Was my first track day in the 7 and have to say I absolutely LOVED it. Really pleased to see us flying past all the tin tops. I had thought, before going out, that some of them would be all over us being quite exotic machinery but not a bit of it. The only tin top I recall coming past was a Ferrari of some sort, 430 was it? Have to say though that the bloke in his M5 was going well for a car so heavy. The most impressive were probably the Renault Megane or the Vauxhall VX220 that were going about, great pace from both of them. It's hard to put names on here to cars from last night, what colours were your respective cars? I was the white one with black stripes that had a bit of a 'moment' and ended up going sideways all the way down paddock hill bend :) I think the green car with orange stripe was Simon in his CSR? Quick car that but then 260hp helps! Tom

    Mirrors

Yeah I think for these to work effectively they'd need to be on the screen. You want a nice stable mounting point after all to stop the vibrations coming through the mirrors. sorry about the links, I was doing it from my phone and it was near enough impossible! Tom

    Mirrors

Sorry all, totally forgot to update with some pics. This should hopefully answer most people's questions. i drilled some new holes in the side of the screen. Protected the metal with some tape and gradually worked up to an 8mm hole. I picked the one place where there's actually space to allow the screen to be drilled in situ. This also happens to mean the mirrors end up at near enough perfect height once fitted. https://carousel.dropbox.com/photos/cc/z79B2NjSKzRKlML https://carousel.dropbox.com/photos/cc/bKjoq6OpFIkfqSc And here's how they look on the car: https://carousel.dropbox.com/photos/cc/a9KCj7pzkHM7s0w https://carousel.dropbox.com/photos/cc/E4V7bOlUsqPbJXZ you can open the door more than 90 degrees before hitting the mirror. Also because they are small and quite rigid they don't get knocked out of alignment nearly as easily as the standard mirrors. For me they are a big improvement. Tom
  7. How powerful is your car? also how much would you like for your wheels?
  8. Julian, click on the link that was posted in one of the above posts. It will take you to the MSV booking page. I haven't been to look at whether there are still places but I imagine it will tell you if there's space. The more 7's the merrier as last count there werent enough booked by the cut-off date to guarantee an all 7 event. Tom

    Mirrors

Yup I bought some of these a week ago and fitted them for last weekends Dunsfold outing. They are excellent and I have no regrets. For £29 they are a total bargain. because they are small they don't vibrate nearly as much as the Caterham standard mirrors so you can actually see behind you when driving which is a bonus! easy fit, just drill an 8mm hole through the side of the windscreen mount and then use the supplied fixings to mount. 30 mins to do both sides. despite their small size I'd say the field of view is better than the standard mirrors (wider field of view). ill see if I can get some pics up
  10. Sorry, meant to say that the 82 degree thermostat is a Cosworth part I believe.
  11. Hi Logan, mines a couple years old and seems to be the same as you describe. The standard thermostat (Ford presumably) is a 90 degree one I believe. I suspect this may be close to the fan cut-in temperature, presumably as set within the ECU. Mine seems to cut in almost without fail as soon as I come to a standstill. It may even be running sometimes when I'm on the move, hard to tell with all the noise! you can buy an 82 degree thermostat and replace the one that's on it. That's certainly what I'm planning to do when I get the chance. Will mean the thermostat opens earlier and hopefully you'll not hit the fan cut in temps so regularly. Can't remember off the top of my head who supplies the 82 degree thermostats. I'm sure someone better informed will be along shortly though. Also have a search of the archives as this has definitely come up before if you're after an urgent fix. Tom
  12. Another vote for East Coast fibreglass supplies from me as well.
  13. surprised there hasn't been more takers. Common people, get it booked!
  14. Christian, as Grubster says, parallel or very slight toe-in will give better road peeformance in as much as it won't hunt around on the roads camber quite as much. I've gone for parallel with mine and I think it's fine on the road if that helps. as for camber it's only really the fronts you can alter. -1.25 seems to be the a good setup recommended by the BC community. I've got mine set a little more aggressively and I can actually tell it's too much so will try to soften it next time I've got the opportunity. Tom
  15. Nice guide Daniel. Have now bought the parts to have a go at this myself. Safety first and all that. I do have one question though which is regrading how bright it is. is there anything that can be done to 'turn it down a bit'? I presume an inline resistor would work but anybody got any ideas what a good one to go for might be? I think in standard guise this would be retina searing for those behind you in traffic, particularly at night. I'm the sort of grumpy bastard that gets annoyed when people leave their fog lights on when there's no need so I can't cope with becoming 'one of those' types!
  16. Well that's me all booked and paid. This will be my first outing on track in mine aside from a few laps of the Dunsfold circuit last year. Very much looking forward to it. Who else is a newbie and going to this? Tom
  17. 18th June evening for me please.
  18. Taking inspiration from this thread and a BOGOF offer on at halfords, I decided to change the standard Caterham bulbs for the Halfords +120% ultra bright bulbs. The difference is very surprising. The colour is whiter and much more powerful. ill go for the newer Crystal reflectors next and see if I get a further improvement but for now, £25 for 2 replacement bulbs seems money well spent.
