  1. All that care ... last Sunday, while dropping my car of to have it checked, I noticed the LHD R500 he was preparing. The complete nosecone was sanded down to get the shine off! The owner wants to do the other bits as well to get a "meaner" look and I have to say it actually work out quite good (Ali body)!

The guy is picking up his car this weekend and plans to drive it all the way to Gibraltar ... lucky bastard!

  2. Next time just mention 6.9 ....... not quite 7 is it? wink.gif

For all the UK people, did you guy's notice that we keep the Euro at a rate of 1.6 to the Pound so that it is easier to convert? Most of you have a speedometer in miles and kilometers ....

    ( 1.6km/mile and 1.6Euro/£ )

  3. You managed to get home in one piece then Marius (with or without a detour via SPA?). Vera and I really enjoyed the evening, next time make sure to bring the other half around as well. Vera hopes you where not offended by her almost falling asleep ... must have been our "car talk" that did the trick smile.gif
  4. Tony,

While doing some upgrades on the car I replaced the standard clutch at 30K miles. Even with about 3.5K of those being track miles there was still about 1mm left on it.

Since the upgrades however I can feel the clutch "work" more ... the extra grip due to a LSD is tough on it as is the change from a 5 to a 6 speed. If you are able to wait a year I can tell you how it behaves after 10K miles smile.gif

  5. I can not give you any figures for Aero screens and half sidedoors but for my car, a 1.66SS with 13inch-032R's I get:

    193kmh with screen and doors

184kmh with screen and no doors

Both these where measured on the same long stretch of Belgian highway. I never took the car flatout with the roof on so I have no top-speed data. Last month however I got a higher end-speed on the Kemmel straight at SPA with the roof on compared to without the roof ...

  6. Most places do not like buffing tires that already have been used, often they ask extra money for doing so. Small stones, grains of sand, etc. that are stuck in the rubber probably blunt the cutters that are used.
  7. Apply it with circular movements, the solvent in it will clean the window by doing so. The residue left you then need to polish up with something like a dry cloth or some tissue. Do this until everything is gone.

Rainex is very good, even excellent, on a tintop where the window's curvature allows the raindrops to pearl and fly off. On a Seven the flat windscreen kind of spoils the fun ... but it still is better then nothing.

Try in on your tintop ... when applied well you can forget swithing on the wipers!

  8. Alain,

Are you sure the car never was used on the track before you bought it?

My DD tube developed a crack after 38000km, 2.5years and regular track use. At that moment it was only barely visible in the paint ... Phillipe luckly detected it while replacing the dampers. I guess that after extra time, curbstones, etc. it would have ended up like yours.

It was rewelded and I now developed the good habit of checking it on a regular basis, including before and after every track day (not only the DD tube, also other stresspoints!!).

  9. Nig, if you already have a light flywheel I would not bother spending £300 on the R500 one ... as Tor mentions more weight can be saved in the clutch assembly. For people who start from scratch the extra £50 over a standard light flywheel is something to consider.
  10. I had a R500 flywheel installed last month but was unable to measure the weight. From picking it up I can tell you that it is slightly lighter as a 1.4K racer-flywheel ... but not by much.

The difference is on the outside of the flywheel. If you want I can send you a picture from the R500 one so that you can compare it with the one in your car.

  11. Shrines is slightly exagerated ... the EEC does not allow us to make shrines under their building regulations. They did make a special law however that allows us to have big refrigerators and cellars to stock beer ... for the sacreficing ofcourse smile.gif

  12. Did anyone change the glass only? How difficult is it?

My window looks like if someone took a shot at me with a riotgun, it should be replaced one of these days. Caterham has got non heated ones that cost about £60 without the frame ... if it's not to difficult I might have a go at that.
