    Petty strut

Arrived today. It has the fia sticker etc so all's fine except no fitting kit. I have a metric chassis so I assume it won't be a 7/16 hole but the metric equivalent. I think I will give Caterham another call tomorrow to see if they have the kit described in the build manual as ZPS 01. Longy
  2. Thank you. Will it have to be purchased from Caterham or could it be purchased elsewhere. I say this because I can't see that it is in stock on there website. Longy
  3. I am more than a little confused by this . I recently purchased from caterham an FIA roll bar it has the cross bracing in the back. I looking purchase the petty Strut so that I can use this arrangement for club speed smevents .I don't see an FIA sticker anywhere on this roll bar . Stephen

  8. Thanks Oli, They look good value I wonder how much better than ZV 3's they are ? That was a joke btw Longy
  9. The list is enormous can anybody tell me which is currently the best tyre in this list . I have 14" rims . Thank you in advance. Longy
  10. Hi Mark, Plenty to read in the competitors corner Thank you. I will get the petty strut underway then and see what develops with regard to tyres . I am keen to drive to and from events I the true spirit of the seven. Longy
  11. Oh I am back with another question how do you get a sticker for the roll bar ? Longy
  12. Hi Oli Some very interesting things to think about . My caterham is a bog standard 125 sigma still on its original ZV3's on 14" rims I assume I will be able to detach the petty strut when not in use and when removed won't unduly affect the passengers comfort ? I am also going to assume a petty strut is available as an addition to the FIA bar I purchased this year ? I have an ARI full face helmet from my motorcycle days I guess I need to check the labelling. Do I really need fireproof overalls and fire proof gloves ? I am starting to feel like Burt Munroe ... I am thinking I could use my 13" rims currently with worn AO21's and use the current favourite tyre when we know what that is to be. Do I have to have a cut off switch or can I label up the ignition, so I need a fire extinguisher? I am also guessing a standard rac speed licenceis ok and no medical required ? Anything you guys have missed out ? All your responses with these questions are much appreciated. Longy
  13. Where do I start? My last Sprint was 37 years ago Questions like do I need a Hans device will my current helmet be legal. I have a 125 sigma what class would I be in Tyres ? I have upgraded the roll bar to FIA do I need to do anything else. Any advice much appreciated. Do I remember an event last year something along the lines of a get to know ...speed events or some such . Longy
  14. Aeroscreens, I certainly have the same black plastic as you. Giving Radtec a call was a good idea and thank you for sharing. I will tighten it up at the weekend. Longy
  15. Thank you 6 speed, I will try this at the weekend Longy
  16. On the garage floor. I have discovered it'd coming from a blanking plug ..should have mentioned its a radtec. It's finger tight but it has a hexagonal depression and don't know what to put in it . It's looks to be about 13 mm across. Any ideas as to how to tighten it up please. I don't want to grip the outside of it as it appears to be made of plastic. Could I put a bolt in it. perhaps a big Allan key ? Longy
  17. Hi Alan, I look forward to a wing mirror tutorial at the end of the month then. Judging by the itinerary you both enjoyed wightblat. Regards Longy
  18. These are very good ideas and I like Ian's carbon effect ones. It has occurred to me looking at them that with them in place it will not be possible to open the doors fully is this correct ? Longy
  19. I currently have the standard set up of mirrors mounted on the doors. Is it possible to mount mirrors on the screen frame permanently allowing me to remove the mirrors from the doors so that they pack away nicely in hot weather. Longy
  20. Mavic82 I was thinking about this in bed last night I may be able to move the holes as you suggested. But I would like to have a look at the SV hinges and see if they can be used. A quick look on the Caterham website suggests they are the same size as the plastic one's but made of steel rather than plastic do we think they would fit ? Longy
  21. So do I go sv hinges or cut down the plastic one's. I think I will have a go at cutting down my existing hinges first. Thank you for your input. Oh and Happy Easter. Longy
  22. My drivers door doesn't hang correctly. Close inspection reveals the hinges have one end rounded and one end flat. On the passenger door the flat pieces meet and the door fits perfectly. On the drivers side the rounded pieces meet, this results in the door settling in an unacceptable manor. We concluded that perhaps these hinges are handed. Is this assumption correct. Longy
  23. Smffy 69 and Greg's 79 did you guys get my emai ? Longy
  24. We expected there to be bolts from under the suspension through the chassis and into the roll bar, my car didn't have any just the two small bolts on the top and those in the back of the boot.
  25. Ok yes it did all get finished. A couple of interesting things. I have a metric factory built car and the first thing to notice is no bolts in the bottom of the road roll bar and no thread or hole to fit them so removing the old roll bar was easy. The next thing is the new F I A roll bar fits the boot cover perfectly so I dont need to replace it. Thirdly the oxted trimming roof is a glorious thing to behold the red piping suits the car and the material matches the doors etc and is easy to keep clean. An excellent job well done in record time by John with assistance and no I didn't get time to read the book. Longy
