  1. #29 I wonder what Caterham will be putting on their ew 420r's when all the stock is gone...
  2. Mine too, I just swapped the tyres round on the wheels.
  3. #13 I've got use to the clonking and grinding noises but I'm always checking the preload. last time I check was 3 months ago and got a reading of 39.
  4. I think I must be very lucky so far. I've covered over 15,000 spirited miles in mine from new, I change the oil every year since 2018 and everything is fine.
  5. I've searched for this but can't find a working link. It's for my BMW LSD diff. Does anyone have link to the ebay ones?
  6. Recently changed mine on my 420r with about .5 of a mm from the wear indicators. New ZZs's all round for the last time I fear. I too shall be going down the 888 route next time.
  7. Fully working carb balancer. £12 delivered.
  8. Ah yes, a ratchet strap, I never thought of that. I'll report back.
  9. And now to stop it spinning when I tighten the nut! I know there needs to be pressure on it so I tried two clamps to no avail. Going to try a bigger G clamp today and see how that goes. How does everyone else do it?
  10. Ok, that makes more sence now. Thanks SM25T.
  11. Bought the ball joint yesterday from Oakmere. I'll just count the threads and measure. Thanks anyway guys.
  12. Thanks but I've read on here that it's very easy to damage the dust cover when installing a new one, hence, I thought it would be better to replace the whole thing and just count the turns carefully when taking it off. Also, there is a method ('SM25T' does it this way) where you use a nut and bolt to split it but can't picture that in my tiny brain! Does anyone have a picture of how it works?
  13. Hi all, I have a 2018 420r that has a hole in the upper wishbone ball joint dust cover. I read that its better to get a new ball joint, does anyone know what these are from or do I have to order from Caterham?
  14. You can't beat Autosol and good old fashioned elbow grease!
  15. Thanks guys, that's great news. Powerflex maybe the way forward then.
  16. Having built my last live axle car in 1992 I had extensive knowledge of it, but my current car was factory built and not au fait with it as much. Am I correct in thinking that my 2018 420r has a metalastic bush fitted to the a-frame or does it have the tapered type? I'm assuming that these have come a long way from my old live axle ones that needed changing on a regular bases?
  17. Thanks to all, I did wonder if they were sealed. It's a far cry from my old Triumph Spitfire trunnions...thank God!
  18. Maybe a noob question but does this need any servicing in the way of greasing? Thanks in advance.
  19. Thanks for the info guys, will get some cap heads. Managed to get them off without any dramas. Bearings all cleaned and re greased, discs are having the insides sprayed (where they rust) hubs sprayed and the uprights painted with smooth silver Hammerite. Looking like new again! Next job is to clean the calipers with brake cleaner and a tooth brush.
  20. Thanks ChrisC that's a great help. I too had seen 58Nm on the AP site but that was for the 4 pot caliper.
