  1. And at the risk of starting a deluge I have a trade account with a motor factors that supply Gates products through my boatyard. (resists the temptation of a shameless plug for sailing holidays!) I will get some prices this week to compare to the Burtons standard to see if it would be worth the effort. AndyH

  4. I have a red nose cone, bonnet and rear wings that are for sale left over from a rebuild that has just been completed. Nose cone is pretty good - badge has been removed and left 2 fixing holes. Bonnet is good with one chip that I can see and slight marking where sidescreen has rubbed when open. Rear wings are not great - a few chips and marks and gel coat badly crazed below rear light position - probably good for a racer! All going on ebay on Thursday if no one on here wants them. I am based in Norfolk, but regularly travel to Milton Keynes, Northampton, Stratford upon Avon. Also due to go to North Yorkshire later this month.

  7. On my twin weber set up I have a weber twin cable linkage with twin cables. At the pedal end there is a block (see here) which is attached to the pedal by a small bracket that slides over the pedal shaft and holds the above in a vertical plane. Anyone any idea where this might have come from? Trying to replicate the same on the one I am building to got o New Zealand and this is one of the remaining tasks. Thanks!
  8. If you are struggling to get a hex bar in it is worth noting that mine is a square hole. I have got it out in the past using a 3/8 ratchet square.

  11. The issue here seems to be specific BMW design electrics or overlay electrics. Scotchlocks are an irrelevance in that respect as they are just one way of achieving an overlay - it could equally be achieved through high quality soldered joints.
  12. Having stripped the car to nothing more than a tubular chassis the need for attention was evident as car be seen from the photo above. I have been aware that my own 1994 chassis has a lot of the powder coating having failed and allowed rust to degrade the tubes, but seeing this 7 in its naked form brought home the extent of the problem below the skin. So off to Arch with the chassis along with all the other powder coated components including suspension arms, de-dion tube and wing supports. Once there Bruce and Phil Robinson conversed with Andy Rogerson in New Zealand via the great interweb and the spec was agreed. In what seemed like a remarkably short timescale the chassis was ready to collect, and beautiful it looked too! The quality of some of the aluminium skin work is exquisite. On the way home I dropped into a local restoration specialist to get a quote for paint - he too was very impressed with the quality of the work - but clearly therefore believed that it must have cost a packet and that he could therefore also make a killing - he quoted £5k for a paint job - plus VAT! Needless to say he did not get a call to book the car in and following a bit of further investigation it became clear that the best place to take it was TSK Autocentre as used by the Caterham factory. Hugely knowledgeable and helpful and a very reasonable price. None the less before it went for paint there were a number of holes to drill including: Aero fuel filler screws; Exhaust exit; Rear wing fixings; Windscreen stantions; Heated windscreen wires; and Battery Master Switch.Chassis was then delivered to TSK along with the fibreglass panels as they strongly recommend painting these as well to ensure a good paint match. Now have about 3 weeks to prepare the garage and spare parts before the rebuild begins in earnest!
  13. I had the same problem at Silverstone on satuday and ended up blowing the expansion cap top off. However mine was because of air in the top of the radiator which stops the fan switch seeing the true temp of the water - worth checking before you buy a new one! Topped up and bled the radiator and all was well with the fan switch - and thanks to Andrew Revill who drove me a cap down to Northampton this morning - top bloke! AndyH
  14. For Pooh's - copper all fell apart when we took it apart and tried to clean it!!
  15. Has anyone come across Alicool radiators on ebay? Any experiences? Many thanks!
