  1. Spoke to Caterham today and was advised that there have been some issues with this recently. Was advised to check flatness of the caliper face and the ingress of caliper black paint in the area where the washer should sit. I checked the AP website and the torque figure for the male to male insert into the caliper is 25NM. (I think that is twice Caterham's figure). I have torqued them to this figure this evening, which was only a tweak from my BS Nip. They are still showing a slight weep. I plan to strip the set up and then clean surface of caliper with some smooth wet and dry and try again. Hope it works this time. Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  2. Well, have stripped the brake lines to the caliper right back today. Inserted new copper washers and then cleaned and reassembled everything. Re bled the brakes and........ yes they still weep from the washer caliper connection. Oh! well a call to Caterham tomorrow. 😔 Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  3. Thanks for the advice and support. I will look into the smaller washers tomorrow. Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  4. Sitting in my garage on this sunny day in Yorkshire wishing that I had my IVA appointment (still waiting), looking at my expectant vehicle, longing for a run up the Dales. I have noticed a weep of brake fluid from the point of connection of the braided hose to the AP uprated fron disc caliper on my new build Roadsport 175. I have tried tightening the connections, but to no avail over the last three days. The weep is less but still there. Has anybody experienced this before or got any ideas how to cure it? I have applied british standard nip to all connections, but realy do not want to tighten them anymore for fear of the inevitable shear. I have searched the archives and note that some rear calipers had this issue and were faulty, but haven't seen any posts on the uprated AP front calipers. Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  5. Hi, Make sure that the braided clutch hose is tight in the bell housing, before you install. If it rotates it is an engine out job to fix. i.e. split at bell housing. (This happened to me). If you have a short bleed nipple not quite proud of the bell housing slot you will need a long/deep 8mm socket and a bleed hose passed through the centre of the socket to bleed the clutch. I managed to get the washer bottle on the vertical surface, but you have to measure very carefully. It made more sense to me for filling etc. Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  6. 2 hours later and with the use of my dremel and some levering I have removed the nut. Unfortunately both threads are damaged. ☹️ Could be worse at one point I really thought the nut was not going to come off at all. Only up from here. Thanks for the advice and support. Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  7. Thanks very much for all the advice. Fuelled by a green Thai curry 😬I will shortly be entering the garage for "Nut Extraction". Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  8. Yep, my Torque wrench has a small lever like a normal socket ratchet. If I can gert the nut off I will check the threads. hopefully your right and the nut is softer than the driveshaft threads. Thanks. I am beginning to feel a bit more positive. Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  9. I am building a Roadsport 175 and have been torquing the driveshaft bearing nuts up. The O/S RH thread was fine, but the N/S LH thread just went on and on and the torque wrench did not click. I gave up and left it for a day. I have just loosened the N/S nut to the point that the thrust washer is loose and there is a clear 5mm gap. I then thought I would check the threads. Unfortunately I cannot get the nut off ☹️. I fear the thread may have stripped. The nut just rotates and does not move any further off the shaft. Any suggestions on how to get the nut off? Any body experienced this before? I fear this may mean new drive shaft, bearing and nut...... Simon Roadsport 175 SV
  10. Fantastic. Problem solved, thank you. I slackened off the bulk head pedal stop then started the car on the axle stands in gear and then gently eased the clutch in and lo and behold the wheels stopped turning. Will now set up the stop properly. Many thanks.
  11. First post for me so sorry if there is an obvious answer. I have fired up my new build Roadsport 175 today for the first time. Clutch is fully bled and the engine runs a dream. However, the clutch will not disengage and so I cannot put the car in gear with the engine running. The car is up on axle stands and I have started it in 1st gear and the drive train runs fine, but the clutch still will not disengage to allow a change of gear. . I tried a touch of the brakes, but this just drops the rpm a bit. Any ideas 🤔 Rgds Simon
