  1. Well, I'm even more confused As of this morning, the bleeping brake pedal has stopped! Maybe it was the heat yesterday. I ran the car up to full temperature yesterday and it sat in the sun on tickover for quite a while. Myles, my indicators do make quite a loud tick/buzz when signalling left or right. I assumed this was normal and the volume was so you could hear it above all the rest of the (lovely) row. Love to meet up sometime, do you go to the Warks meeting at Eathorpe? can't go this week as I am in Germany on business. Chris, I heard the ugly buzz when switching the hazard switch on or off. That is a very different sound to my bleeping brake pedal. Interested in what Cat Midlands may say about it at the PBC.
  2. The RS Components website;- www.rswww.com has a good guide to the Loctite range of threadlocking. It's under Consumables/Adhesives& Sealants/Threadlocking As for Torque Wrenches, my advice would be to buy the best you can afford. I get on eof the cheapest Draper and, as suggested before, it seemed very inaccurate at the lower end. I lost faith in it when I managed to snap a quite small bolt that was being torqued to 15 lbs/ft. I borrowed a "Snap-On" professional one for the hub nuts and the difference was very noticeable
  3. Chris, Thanks for the info. The Brake Warning light seems to test OK. It is quite a tuneful Bleep, nothing like the loud buzzer sound from the indicators. It's electronic and very specific to the action of the brake pedal and hence brake lights. Has anyone ever heard of the brake light switch making an electronic bleep? Confused of Warwickshire
  4. I've just completed the build of my SV140, the PBC is booked for next week. After a small amount of "testing" up and down the road the car has just started issuing an electronic bleep when the brake pedal is pressed. First thought was Brake Fluid level, but that is spot on Max Second thought was Brake light bulb, but they both work. The Assembly guide and Handbook give no clues, although it does talk about some sort of warning (not described) if the brake fluid is low. I suppose it could be the fluid sensor misreading in some way. Does anyone know what the brake fluid warning is or sounds like? Any other ideas? BTW - spotted a red 7 Reg L12 HPC in Warwick town centre this morning, sounding very crisp. I can't wait to get on the road, but SVA not until 20th June ☹️
  5. Paul, You were quite right. The lever and selector forks had been turned around by 180 deg in the housing before fitting. It was obvious once I got it back off. thanks again
  6. I filled my new 5-speed box last weekend. It only took about 1.3 litres, even though the guide said 1.9l. However, I know the level was correct because I had the top plate off and poured the oil in with the drain/level plug out. I believe there was quite a lot in already. Certainly a fair bit of oil ran out of the tailshaft when sliding the box onto the propshaft.
  7. Paul, Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know it was possible to get the lever in the wrong place. The build guide makes no mention of aligning the lever and it only seemed to go in one way. Looks like the tunnel top will have to come off cheers
  8. The build of my SV140 with a standard 5-speed box has been progressing well, but now I have hit a problem. The gearlever appears to be a long way forward and very stiff. In fact, it is impossible to select reverse and the other gears are very difficult to engage. I it possible to fit the selector incorrectly? The gearbox tail housing has three bolts that seem to determine the position of the selector. However the gear lever does not seem to be operating correctly. Any suggestions or advice would be gratefully received.
  9. Can anyone help? I started to build my SV140 yesterday and immediately hit a problem with the thread in the LHS Top Chassis mount for the Spring damper. The bolt won't run in, even on its own. I've tried washing and cleaning it out with WD40 but something is in there! is there anyone going to Stoneleigh who has a Tap that would fit this thread? It's the one where you have to flex the body to get the bolt in, so I'm not sure I can get a normal Tap into it. I live close to Stoneleigh, so any kind person has a solution and can get it there, I can visit either Sunday or Monday, as convenient. I have been told that ARC are supposed to check all these now, but my first experience of Caterham quality is not good. ☹️ Thanks
  10. The Assembly Guide makes no mention of any special tools for adjusting the suspension. Are the "C" spanners what they sound like and any idea where could I get them? Anybody know what is the Cateham advice on this topic?
  11. Tony / Miraz Thanks for the advice and guidance which is much appreciated. I'm sure you're right about the jack, but how many "pairs of hands" does it need to lift the car (without engine and gbox) onto or off the stands?
  12. Tony, Thanks again for the additional information. For clarity, do you suggest leaving the rear shocks and FIA bar off (and hence the car on stands) until after the engine/gbox has been fitted etc? The assembly guide appears to be in a logical sequence, but from what you say this seems to be NOT TRUE. Can you see any reason why I couldn't fit FIA bar, Harnesses and Boot Cover (anything else?) just prior to completing the Rear Suspension, or is there another "gotcha" waiting on this approach?
  13. Tony, Thanks a lot for posting this "gotcha". My first Caterham build (SV140) is due early May so the information is very timely. How about a section for these sort of issues in the new FAQ?
  14. How about a separate Forum dedicated to Tips, Tricks and Gotchas for the process of Assembling the kit? As I will soon (hopefully) be constructing my first Caterham, it would be very helpful to have a specific place to go for advice and guidance.
