    Blackbird Q

www.novaracing.co.uk All the details are on the site. as regards the sump pan design, try to find some pics of Bird engines to compare. I think Westfield do a dry sump kit as well you may well be able to find details on their web site parts catalogue www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk Hope this is of some help

£575 + vat + carriage, for dry sump , but you will need some pipe work and a scavange pump as well from Pace I think.. prob a £1k fitted but cheaper than a new Bird engine.

I ran a Kawasaki ZZR 1100 with a Protech(Radical) sump with loads of piping to the big ends, blew up the No.3 end bearing after 5 track days. I would dry sump it to be on the safe side. The Blackbird was more a "touring " engine than a Superbike/Race engine (like the Fireblade) so it may not quite like the stresses quite as much.

  6. You certainly have, it has been lovingly cared for under the stairs, and as you say turned from time to time as a stress reliever for the said GP!
  7. Ah, that will be another Doctor's engine then!

    14" wheels

Who makes a lightweight 14 " alloy? Thanks in advance
  9. Lancelot I suspect it is possible to build an R1 with a starter kit base keep it light and prob get the price in under £15 k, however as Mike Bees suggests a conversion would be easier not least for the SVA potential aggravation. As you suggest even with De Dion (which may provide better diff ratios) and an R1 it would be quick. I doubt you lose much on the value if it was a neat converesion (STM, Kit Car workshop) to put the cage for the engine in and the pick up points for the gear linkages, prop, the rest is not difficult. I would agree re J Whiting, I could not really understand why they backed off the project, I suspect having to use older engines to get through SVA, or even a nod from Caterham indicating not to produce a car for £13k that could take the piss out of the more expensive CECs in the range!
  10. Wots up Harrie. are the ashtrays full on your most recent Caterham (post Exige)!
  11. The present is non LSD 3.54, is it possible to get a taller diff or is this the limit, alternatively is it possible to go the LSD route in the same casing? Thanks in advance
  12. R1 derivative, as less hassel in terms of dry sump, unless it cannot be fitted under low bonnet line. I suspect a low profile sump can be found for it.
  13. Why not buy Austin,s car in for sale (R500) without engine and go that route Sounds an amazing starter package!
  14. Striker Blade live Ford axle fully caged road going , no fancy carbon/titanium lightweight bits at all. 25 litres fuel on 13" Ford alloys with AO48rs weight 420 kg, so I reckon if you get a Caterham starter kit and an R1 engine in it (170bhp) and order all light parts you could get about 425-450 bhp/tonne for under £15K. May well see a CSR off as the bike cars are MUCH more a sum of the parts in terms of braking, turn in and cornering speeds.

    Fireblade

    Anyone selling?
  19. Sell it as it is ,then buy a Starter kit and cheery pick what you wish. add in 2nd hand Blade (300bhp/tonne) RI (400bhp/tonne) and get someone to fit the linkages and mounts, rest is pretty easy, this way you can accomodate most of what Graeme says in the outset £13000 is prob feasible
  20. I was suggesting an R 300 as a baseline in performance, handling as IMHO it would not be any better than the Striker if lower spec. A 160 bhp Toyota Striker will weigh in approx 540kg - just shy of 300 bhp/tonne so little difference unless you go for a bigger lump or conversely go lighter with BEC eg Yamaha R1 and get 420kg car with 170 bhp - 400bhp/tonne. The latter would be a stunning car as the sum of the parts in a lightweight car is so much more fun in terms of braking , turn in and handling.
  21. Having gone opposite way (Caterham to Striker Blade) you will need at least R300 spec (or its equivalent) to improve on your Striker, so your budget may be a little low. However you do realise that you will be paying a premium for the "lotus 7 Heritage" which if you buy a new CSR it is about as close to the original as a BMW!! 😬
