  1. Many of you claim that 13" wheels are a vast improvement on these cars but how much is subjective? Presumably altering the overall drive ratio by going from 14" to 13" wheels will allow more of the rev range to be used, but will this give a noticeable increase in acceleration and top speed in top gear? Overall weight should be reduced particularly unsprung weight, which presumably improves speed of handling? Or is it only if one drops down in size from 16" wheels that the difference be noticed? Thanks in advance for all comments.
  2. Peter, with all the skill and knowledge required to build and spec this amazing engine, what do you do for a day job?! Regards Dogvet.
  3. Much as I admire the threads on this topic, surely the only way to even attempt to assess the tweaking is on the track with data logging. Otherwise it is all too subjective. I would suspect that only the very best and very intuitive drivers even on a track can replicate sequential laps that would give any meaning to the time differentials. Having decided to leave my car alone for a season and just do a load of track days, my car handling, perception of what the car is doing, and consequently the lap times are much improved. "Change the nut behind the wheel" seems to be a reasonable adage!!! It also seems to be reaffirmed by an Elise driver with a standard car that has won a variety of novice drivers awards against a lot of tweaked kit at sprints and hillclimbs by track practice. Peter, Is in paragraph 3 of your link correct? or am I being thick! sentence starts" Raise the rear a small amount...and adjust the "front" platforms. surly this would be difficult if the front of the car is lowered to the ground, as indicated before hand? Is this not difficult as the springs are tensioned or is it that the are upside down shock platforms making this easier? Thanks in advance.
  12. A veritable hornets nest! Having driven all sorts of 7s live and di dion,as well as shot gun in JPE. Driven Westfields as well as the new bike engined cars, shot gun in the FW 400, either on track and road, from the driving there is little to choose, maybe aesthetically yes. Even the new Formula 27 with its stainless steel tub in race trim looks and goes the part, enough to raise the heart rate of any dyed in the wool Caterham owner , if it didn't I suggest you go back to driving tin tops!!! Just as well there are others, or we would have to compare the 7 with the new Strathcarron!!
  13. Sometimes the views expressed on other makes of the 7 genre really saddens me. It would be better if the attitude were more positive as we may be the last generation to be priviledged to self build and drive these cars, before the men in grey suits decide to ban them, as they are obviously too much fun. A long line of satellite controlled tin tops may awaite us all! so, I suggest that we support the fact that others may choose to drive different version of the same theme, as they say "there is more than one way to skin a cat"

    Aero screen

Anyone know who manufactures these? Thanks in advance.
  17. What makes the 7 so stiff? Is it the spring rates or is it the bilstein dampers as I believe some of the spring rates are as low as 170lbs? Thanks in advance.
  18. How much difference in feel/performance is there between 13"/60series and 13"70 series, obviously it will drop the car a little? Thanks in advance.

    Blackbird

£25k sterling, no idea when. seems quite alot when its competitors can out drag it to 60 by 0.8 secs (3.2 0-60 claimed). One for the track, one for the road... and still some left over for the "aftershock" drinks!!
  20. What effect does putting stiffer springs (on the front)have on the cars ability to turn into a corner? What effect does it have on understeer/oversteer into and out of the corner? Thanks in advance, Dogvet.
