  1. I have only used the wipers once on my 1997 Supersport since I bought it in September, but I don't recall an intermittent function. Mind you, the hood was down and I was getting soaked at the time. Drive faster, drive faster... In Memoriam DMG
  2. CC advised me to use 5/50 in my 1.6K SS, when I bought it this September. In Memoriam DMG
  3. John Thanks. I'll give it a try. In Memoriam DMG
  4. RJ - mange tak! It sounds as if it should be possible to loosen the bolts a smidgeon without having the whole lot collapse about me... In Memoriam DMG
  5. I have a number of small stones stuck between the windscreen stanchions and the bodywork which I want to remove. They are sufficiently wedged in there that trying to ping them out will scratch the paint work. The obvious solution would seem to be to take an allen [sp?] key to the bottom bolts and loosen them to get at the stones. But the idiot DIYer that I am knows that before I attempt what seems a simple task I had better check that I am not about to do something completely daft like lose some nuts on the inside down the cockpit panel, or have the windscreen collapse out of its frame onto the bonnet or into the cockpit. Is this a simple job that a numpty like me could perform without b*ggering something up? In Memoriam DMG
  6. 1 pair Nomex black racing boots size 40 - 6 1/2, please at £20 +£2 p&p In Memoriam DMG
  7. RJ - depending on your plans, do you want to meet up for lunch on Friday? I'm in central London. In Memoriam DMG
  8. I recently bought a Talex speed camera/schools/accident blackspot device which also uses GPS to calculate speed. It suggests that my 7's speedo is showing 10mph above the speed I am actually travelling! That has probabalt saved me points on my licence as I do 30mph through 40 mph zones and explains why so many other drivers have been sitting so close on my tail... (I have used the Talex in my MPV with a digital speedo and they both agree on speeds.) In Memoriam DMG
  9. I'd be interested in the hood bag. Collection should be no problem as I'm only off Jctn 4 of the M25. A good excuse for a blat around to Claygate! In Memoriam DMG
  10. Do tell us idc how you get on with them and how you feel they differ from your current rubber. In Memoriam DMG
  11. Just to complete the thread for anyone in the same state of mind as myself. I had two good blats in the past 4 days (see CengizT's post in Spotted for one of them), and I paid particular attention to the gauges. In short I have stopped worrying. The oil pressure rose to just over 4 on start up and varied between 2 and 4 depending on how strenuously I was driving, but there was no erratic movement on the gauge during the blats. Water temp stayed at 80 degrees throughout and oil temp at 60 degrees constantly. Now if they ever read differently...d'oh! In Memoriam DMG
  12. CengizT - indeed we must. And thanks for the tea (no biscuit!? ) I reckon on a combined 400+bhp and three throaty exhausts on three BRG and yellow 7s in formation (of sorts). It must have been a wonderful sight and sound for any true blooded natives... I did hear as we were leaving Orpington, a lad shout excitedly to his mates "F***, there's three of 'em!". I'm a bit tied up this weekend, but could do an early morning Saturday blat or Sunday morning blat but must be back by 1000 on Sunday to prepare for the meet the baby open house. You and Aeroscreens and spouses are welcome if you like that sort of thing! (Feel free to drop in any time between 1130- 1500 on Sunday. I won't be upset if you have a subsequent engagement!) 13. on the A21 yesterday (Friday) heading north at 1615. You joined me on my "6" as I went off to Farnboro' village - I though t you were going to follow me. I presume you were in a (very) cross-flow from the sound of it! Did you overtake the historic Jag open top, as I let him through but came out ahead of him as I rejoined the A21? Tyres

Is there a concensus on the best source for Yokos, Toyos, and Avons? Do any of the nationwide tyre centres stock them? (I'm currently on Yoko AO21R 185/60/13s that came with the car when I bought it.) In Memoriam DMG
  15. Mav & Dave W - maybe the mechanical gauge is the way to go as I will forever be checking those 3 in 2 gauges and worrying myself... In Memoriam DMG
  16. Tom - thanks. I am reassured. I'll try to get out over the next few days and observe the gauges. Brent C - The switch sits between the water temp gauge and oil pressure. I thought (reasonably) that it switched between the two gauges not within the water temp gauge to show oil temp. I don't recall the CC mechanic telling me that the water temp gauge also showed oil temp when toggled, and the handbook, which is of more modern vintage than 1997, doesn't cover the point. So I will admit to being a numpty but I'm trying to learn! (No offence taken, by the way ) In Memoriam DMG
  17. 7heavensoon Thanks. Very interesting. I must go out for a blat and pay more attention to the two gauges. I hadn't realised that the water temp gauge also could show the oil temp. At least the water temp sits consistently on 80 degrees or so which the handbook suggests is as it should be. If I do have an oil pressure problem, what early symptoms should I look out for apart from the obvious of the engine ceasing...? In Memoriam DMG
  18. I have a 1997 1.6 K series Supersport with a Apollo tank. The dashboard has a toggle switch between the water temp and oil pressure gauges. Having only had the car for 6 weeks or so I haven't really played with the toggle switch which has been left to show the water temp. While out for a minor blat to buy a new kettle - no point taking the MPV for something as small as a kettle - I switched to oil pressure while dawdling in the slow moving nose to tail traffic. The gauge needle sat just above the red at about "2" on the dial rising slightly above that when the traffic got moving and I got up to 40mph on the long way home. I didn't get the chance to take the car for a more rigorous blat to see whether that raised the pressure. Should I be worried, and if so what should I do? (I have checked the oil level - engine running, oil level at the nick in the yellow dipstick = all OK. I had also recently checked the exhaust emission colour on start up and all is clear, and the garage floor does not suggest any leaks.) In Memoriam DMG
  19. I haven't deliberately gone out in the wet yet, but I had thought of wearing my golf wet weather gear. (Doesn't improve my golf, but it might improve my driving... ) In Memoriam DMG
  20. Se7en_up - let me know if you are still interested in the spots I have and I'll dig them out between nappy changes (the baby's not mine...) In Memoriam DMG
  21. I may have a couple of old spot lamps. I'm busy clearing the garage and if I find them in one piece they are yours for a donation to ntl. I'll check tomorrow - my wife will be suspicious if I go out to the garage and the 7 at this time of the morning! In Memoriam DMG
  22. if Tom_C doesn't want it I'll have the hoodbag if it is standard (non-SV). In Memoriam DMG Edited by - prangerman on 29 Oct 2006 00:15:03 Edited by - prangerman on 29 Oct 2006 00:16:19
