  1. Drilling and Tapping

    I have an M3 bolt

    and an M3 tap

I think the pitch matches *redface*

What diameter hole should I drill 🤔 I guess it must be Just less than the "thinnest" bit of the thread , but does an M3 bolt have a 3mm shaft that the threads stick out from or if the outermost part of the thread 3mm?

    So should the hole be 3mm 🤔 2.5mm 🤔 2mm

    Sturdy Metal framed office desk.

    Dark "wood" finish

3 built in Drawers - can be mounted on either side

    50" x 30" approx

Its very heavy and heading off to the tip next week if no takers

    The standard filament bulb is

1- producing a lot of light (because it is using 25w electricity however inefficient)

2 - The light is not pure white but biased to the red end of the spectrum.

If you put it through a red filter you will get a lot of red light out.

If you had identical LEDs - same brightness (Candella Cd) and angle of beam etc. one red and one white. If you shone both through a red filter then the red LED will be brighter. The filter will be effectivly invisible to it where a lot of the light from the white LED will be stopped.

Where it starts getting vague is the colour of the LED and the lens should be a pretty good match, fairly easy with red but "amber" can be yellow to orange. (Amber should be about 590nm if you are an anorak)

The second problem is that the maximum 5mm red LED brightness is around 15,000mcd

The brightest 5mm white LED is above 40,000mcd, only trial and error would tell you which is most efficient.

My personal choice would be to get lots and lots of fairly high output Red and yellow LEDs.

A red coloured lens will allow only red light to pass.

If you have a red LED "all" the light will be emitted.

If you use a white LED most of the light will be stopped and only the red part of the spectrum will be transmitted.

Or maybe he did it right and your valves have receeded 🤔

Do you have an unleaded head? - Are you using addititve.

This would however apply more/only to the exhaust valve. - The consistency suggests that there may have been an initial mistake and the settings havnt changed any.

I think you will find the bushes for the rear A-frame are a truncated cone.

A metal inner which blends into a metal end peice.

No metal on the bit that touches the A-frame.

Caterham do this type of bush in two lengths/heights. However knackered the rubber the length of the inner should give you a pretty good idea of the length it should be.

As an aside - if you have the Aframe that is not an A and is just two seperate / without the /_ then you may be able to get a later aframe. the tie bar was added-/reintroduced to remove slop in the rear end.

Whilst I think that "any" type-9 is ok if you change enough bits, the real value is the long input shaft in the v6/xr4i box. You would get very little credit presenting a short shaft box and asking for a long shaft box.

I am sure that Brian would be able to sort you out a deal with a gearbox to sort your needs.

I was strapped for cash when I bought mine so it has standard ratios but it has the improved syncros and lubriaction mods.

Of cource now I really regret not having more done at the time. *thumbdown*

    Loom Tape 😬

    Although

A- if you are being a tart

B - You are trying to get an extra wire (for an indicator) from the headlamp and through the hole in the mounting arm.

Then you may get a smaller, more easily threadable loom using shrink wrap tubing.

OK seeing as you wont say what your aim is an no-one is leaping forward with first hand experience lets assume that you want to add it to the oil to make it "better"

    What is better 🤔

As Peter says the additive is very viscous so it will change the weight of the oil - what weight are you aiming for 🤔

will the "wrong" grade of oil plus the additive make a "better" oil then just buying the correct oil in the first place. 🤔

Are you hoping it will clean the engine through detergents 🤔 - how will that interact with the existing additives package in the oil 🤔

A quick search of the (many ) previous oil threads will reveal a big difference in opinion as to what is a good oil - and thats before you even start adding things to it

    Interesting

especially as BGH change first and second gears as they are low and widely spaced *confused*

*idea*Unless they have kept the low first and stacked 2,3&4 close together with a big gap to 5th

combine that with a 3.6 diff and you have a box that can dribble along in town traffic.

have 3 nice close gears while playing then slot into 5th on the motorway.

Or I could be talking out my 🙆🏻

  11. I was given an SIP gasless welder

I have not needed to use it in a year so it is time for a new home

Collection from Twickenham or Wotton Hatch - possibly Woking(ish)

    NTL donation appreciated

I stand by the fact that opening the heater circuit will reduce the pressure accross the pump.

This will reduce the volume of water getting pushed past the thermostat and through the radiator.

If you then close off the air flowing through the heater then no heat will be removed from the system.

If you turn on the heater fan to Max then yes you have introduced another radiator to the circuit but you have reduced the flow through the main radiator (which would not happen in the summer)

A better engineering solution would be to get a pressure relief valve to vent excess water pump pressure from the pump outlet back to the pump inlet.

This would limit the peak pressure on the thermostat yet continue to ensure that there was full water flow around the engine when it returned to idle. Ensuring complete coolant flow at idle may be the reason why the oversize pulley is no longer used by cosworth.

I would have thought that opening the flow to the heater circuit would have helped as it would be reducing the pressure head accross the pump *confused* *thumbup*

A small flow of air through the heater should keep your toes warm and take relatively little heat out of the engine (compared to 80mph through the rad)

    Time for an electric pump?

Technically they will not be legal for the reasons stated - they do not have an E mark and they do not draw the appropriate current.

However correctly designed they will be more clearly seen and more reliable

I am happy to accept a minor technical infringement for increased visibility.

The US clusters are pretty big - I was not confident that they would fit due to their depth you would have to end the bracket to get them in so the LED would pointing in at 15 degrees or so. - I would be interested in seeing them though

Aha (as in *idea* not the band)

scroll down a bit and you get this - a square of pcb packed with LED and an 1157 connecter on the end *thumbup*
