    Or you can "upgrade" by spending £75+ Pair on name brand copies of the disks and more still with groves and / or x-drilling.

    If they are from a better material they may wear better .... or not.

    The surface finish may stop rust which would be nice.

    I think I have some 8mm ones at the moment that are getting manky

    Are the 10mm ones any "better" 🤔

    Anything to look out for when ordering 🤔

    Is somewhere like burtons/ Vulcan the best place or is there somewhere better 🤔

    Greased 🤔 *thumbdown*

     

    Does grease or any hydrocarbon type stuff attack the seal?

    Will it not also be adversley affected by temperature?

    I was lead to believe this was a bad thing

     

    I eased the fitting of my pistons by smearing a bit of brake fluid on the seal when it was re-fitted and generally smear a bit of brake fluid in the area between the fluid seal and the dust seal - the idea being that if brake fluid was there then air and water were not.

     

    Imperfect because the fluid will attract water and it is hard to tell if a seal is leaking.

  4. Good news is I have found the bush *thumbup*

     

    But it was nowhere near the seatbelt *eek*

     

    There was a little pinhole in the panel right over the bush that I could put a peice of wire in and "feel" the thread. The only thing stopping me from drilling it out now is to get the exhuast headers fitted and make sure that the mount is in a realistic place (one of two 🤔)

    Half my trouble is that I have not fitted the rear wings yet so I have lost a point of reference.

    Just to re-write that for the hard of understanding

     

    The center of the Exhaust bush is 13mm forward of the center of the seatbelt mount.

    The Exhaust bush is in the center (top to bottom) or the chassis rail rather then perched up a little like the seatbelt is.

     

    Ah - in imperial of cource - 1 inch tube - to be in the center would be a half inch down *idea*

    Actually I think it should be ok, If I start at the inner skin by the seat belt bush and work along the floor and up the diagonal rivets.

    Following a reskin the bush is covered up ☹️

    Drilling random holes in about the right place untill I find it is not tempting *thumbdown*

     

    The chassis is an 88 dedeon can someone measure its location in relation to eg suspention mount,

    OR

    Just thought is it possible to see the bush from the inside the car ?

    This is an 8v 1600cc engine we are talking about *confused*

     

    As far as inducing swirl to promote mixing - this air has gone around the butterfly through the venturi and Aux venturi before it reaches the manifold which owes most of its design to placing the carbs horizontaly and above the chassis rail and not poking to far out the bonnet.

  9. I would have a go yourself - I recon if you matched the manifold to the head and generally smoothed the lumps and bumps then you will have achieved the majority of the benefits.

     

    As you say the set-up is imperfect so how much "expert" time is worth throwing at it?

    and how "expert" will they be tuning a fundementaly flawed system 🤔

    If he fettled for 4 hours at £50/hour would you not be better buying a lighter seat/ radiator etc. etc.

    If your temperatures are OK then you have effectivly got away with it. *wink*

    If the amount of gunk blocking the flow and heat transfer is affecting the heat transfer causing overheating then you need to clean it *thumbdown*- this may remove some corrosion that was keeping your system watertight. *thumbdown* *thumbdown*

    I presume 185/60/13 and 205/60/13 would be the most likely sizes but open to suggestions.

    sounds like ian might need a cleaned cooling system and/or a new water pump

    something is not right if all the other crossflow cars are quite happy running with a thermostat.

    Why 3in1 and do you want it in your engine?

    Just put a tablespoon of engine oil down the plugs - let it settle for a while.

    leave plugs out and turn engine over untill oil pressure is showing on guage then replace plugs and start.

  14. It is not necesary to have one *confused*

    If the surfaces are flat and the seal is complete then there should not be a problem.

    I have run without gasgets for a while without problems as have many.

    The stock answer used to be a set of copper gasgets from Roger King, I never got round to getting a set so cant comment.

    Also dont know if anyone stocks them still *confused*

  15. It is just some shims that sit under the rack.

    I guess the rack mount bridge is made deiberately slightly too low (as it is impossible to shim down)

    To be really sure that 6mm is correct for you (and not 5 or 7mm etc) The std. procedure is to remove the dampers (or if possible wind the springs right off) and support the car on a trolly jack at standard ride height.

    Then jack the car up and down measuring the change in Toe-in/Toe-out.

    Lift the rack up on a spacer.

    Then jack the car up and down measuring the change in Toe-in/Toe-out.

    Change the size of the spacer

    Then jack the car up and down measuring the change in Toe-in/Toe-out.

     

    You will probably find that at the extreme ends of the ride height the toe can change significantly. In the middle o fthe range the toe varies less.

    The game is to get that variance as small as possible and get the area of least change centered around your usual ride height.
