OK; engine f---ed so forced to end season early. have 5 spd gearbox to go with new engine - read all the threads re 5spd box - now I am after definitive list. believe I need
new gbox mounting
new input shaft
shorter propshaft
right angle speedo drive
what about clutch is it just a plate or the whole lot ??
do I need a spacer, if so where does it go - between bellhousing & box or bellhousing & engine
If you know where to get these things or get them done it would be really good.
Am trying to get the gearbox mounting detached. There is a large central nut but I cant get a socket on it from underneath. There are to side bolts but I cant get a spanner on the upper end by the gearbox - its a bugger 🤔
While driving sedately this week !!! My Xflow decided to dispense alot of oil through the breather pipe and the little hole in the oil filler cap. I have just checked the compression & No 4 is 70lb/sq ft while rest 150.
What u reckon am I destined to drive a Scenic for a while ??
A flash mate of mine has just upgraded his Roadsport with a 6 speed box, he has offered me the 5 speed for my Xflow ( at a price 😬).
Can any one tell me if it will fit & if so what have I got to do to get it in.
Cheers
My 7 has just failed MOT track rod end front dvr & steering rack front dvr. Ok the track rod end is easy but what about the rack bit? Bit of movement but cant see how to repair,Can it be repaired or do I have to pay a huge amount to caterham for a new rack or is the rack a clone from another make.

Am playing with idea of changing gearbox ratios. can anyone tell me what the redline rev's are on a 1700 Xflow and at what revs max power is produced. Then I can plug it into a software model which should let me determine ratios
Mike
Just read rest of your message. Over the winter I put in phospour bronze guides, new stem seals & new seats on exhaust valves for LRP - the thing now flies. Need to put in new pistons & rings to get rid of the bloody smoking.
I have opportunity of 5 speed box from Sierra, do you know what has to be done to convert ??

I had a similar problem over the weekend, not sure whether it was the fact that the dipstick was not in properly ( which it wasn't ) or whether it was the breather out of the rocker cover which was loose, anyway at over 50 it appeared to suck oil out of these orifices. Both now plugged & it is OK.
Cheers

I have routed mine from the breather to the cam cover then the pipe off the camcover into a small bottle with a sponge by the battery. This way I only have one breather pipe on my 1700 and no more oily back end.
Got the back axle apart & it appears crown wheel is nackered - does anyone know if Caterham stock these or if I have to go to a specialist to give it life?
Thanks
Nick 🤔
Have just spent the last few months rebuilding my Xflow engine. So went on a blat - let the engine warm up - OK lets floor it, nice bit of kick, wiggle like Jordan then BANG - think half shaft or diff has gone to heaven.
How do you replace half shafts ? Should I replace both ? Any other hints ? Breakers yard for Marina/Ital back axle.
Well & truly pissed of NIck
Help
Just got my head back all shiney, Haynes manual says torque head bolts 17-22lb - but seen article saying 70lb -

Am doing top end of my Xflow, have just taken valves out and there is a little bit of side to side play of the valves in guides. How much, if any, is acceptable before I need new guides ?
Thanks
