  1. Anybody got one they don't want. Looking for one in VGC, as I've bent one. Bloody potholes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still Shaking.

    Is it overheating?

Steve, If the temp sensors in the water rail. What's the sensor that's in the top of my Rad (1600K)? I thought this was the sender. Still Shaking.

    Re-spray

Anybody know (ball park) what it costs to re-paint a 7, and who are the best people to contact for a proper job. Oz Still Shaking.

    Which Diff

Richard. Thanks for the reply. Car sits on 15" 195/50 tyres. Actually, just thinking about it, as the speedo reads fast I'm probably nudging 40 in 1st, 65 in 2nd and around 80 in 3rd at approx 7200rpm. However, as I mentioned earlier, I still feel that response from around 25 in 2nd is a bit sluggish. Does anyone know which diff should be fitted with the 6 speed box, and how do you tell which one is on the car??? Oz Still Shaking.

    Which Diff

I have a 1600K supersport. The previous owner had the supersport conversion, 6 speed box and lightened flywheel fitted at CC. No mention of the diff on the paperwork. The car drives ok, but I sometimes get the feeling that the gearing is a little long legged. Particularly when accelerating in 2nd from about 20/25mph the pickup feels a little lacking. Sometimes from about 20mph I have to slam it back into first, if I really need to go quickly. Is this normal? I don't know if this will help, but the car reaches about 40ish in 1st, 70ish in 2nd, 85 in 3rd. Is this normal for the six speed box. As its supposed to be close ratio, should the diff have been changed? Checked the speedo reading today using GPS, and the speedo reads 5mph too fast. Is this a clue? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Oz Still Shaking.

    Wheel sizes

I currently have 15" wheels on my 7 (195/50/15). I keep hearing that 13" are the thing to have. Could somebody explain why? I'm not sure 13" would look right, as they would'nt fill the rear arches so well. Also, surely If I fitted 13" this would completely mess up the speedo calibration. I'm sure many of you have a personal opinion on this, but am I really losing anything??????????? Oz Still Shaking.

    jacking point

Hi all, Where's the best place to position a trolley jack under the rear end. Is it ok to lift under the diff. I need to get the car as high as possible to repaint the underside. I only have normal axle stands and car ramps, plus the trolley jack. I expect a few lumps of 4x4 timber would probably be handy as well!!!!!!!!! Still Shaking.

    Comma DE-TOX

C'mon Guy's, somebody must have used something similar? Apparently this is a one shot treatment that's supposed to clean out combustion chamber, fuel injectors, valves and valve seats. The leaflet claims it maximises engine power, improves acceleration and BHP. Too good to be true? Is it safe? Still Shaking.

Clean off all the deposits that gather around the valves, valve seats and so on. Still Shaking.

    Comma DE-TOX

Whilst at CC recently, they put a leaflet in my car advertising this product. When I emailed them to ask if they endorsed it, and was it entirely safe to use in a 1600K supersport, they replied that they have not tested it or approved it. Fat lot of help that was!!!! So why are they advertising it? Anybody got any thoughts on these additives. Are they safe, or best avoided. Oz Still Shaking.

    Underbody paint

Some of the tubular sections underneath could do with a bit of tidying up. Presumibly smooth hammerite is ok once I've rubbed it back, and which finish matches best. Is it Matt or Satin black. Thanks in anticipation. Oz Still Shaking.
  12. Angus. You may remember I was looking for a leak near the front end which was splashing onto engine. Anyway, I got home today and found it. I have a small hole in the top of the rad, and the coolant runs along the seam and gets blown over the engine. Today I ordered a new rad from CC, which is apparently now made of ali (mine is black) seems expensive £150 ish plus vat. Anyhow, question. What's a radtech rad, and are they cheaper than CC. Still Shaking.
  13. Thanks for the advice Angus/Tessa. Having had another look I'm pretty sure this J shaped pipe is leaking. Engine was taken out middle of September at CC for new clutch assy. As the cars 6 years old, I guess many of the hoses are original, so maybe it's weak and won't seat properly. Come to think of it, I noticed the splashes some time ago. Maybe this has been brewing since then. Anyway, you mentioned silicon hoses. Where 's the best place to get these from in a hurry in the correct sizes. Problem I have is that i'm out of the country early tomorrow, back home Tuesday night. Then away again early Wed until Friday night. Obviously I'd like to get this sorted next weekend. Also, any tips on correct procedure for refilling the cooling system after I've drained it to fit new hoses. Do you know best anti freeze to use, and what quantity do I need. Any help alway's appreciated, as I'm new to all this. Still Shaking.
  14. J shaped pipe sounds right Steve. So I guess that must be the thermostat. Anybody know if it's common for these to spring a leak, or is it more likely there's a problem with the hose. I tightened this up as much as poss, but the water was still leaking. It's hard to see exactly where it's coming from, but I'm sure it's in this area. Nobody got any ideas about these white deposits??????? I wondered if I've also got another leak. Still Shaking.
  15. Black gadget. As a further clue, the dipstick bracket is bolted to one of the bolts that retain the black gadget. Would this black thing be the Thermostat??? Not sure if this is made of metal or plastic. Still Shaking.
  16. Parked the car this afternoon, and noticed water running underneath. There is a steady trickle of water, which seems to be coming from either the hose or the black gadget it's connected to. Anybody know what this is? This is situated directly behind the cam belt below the throttle bodies, and looks like the end of it sticks through a hole into cam belt area. The large hose at the back (possibly the one thats leaking) sort of does a U bend and goes into a large metal pipe. There is also a smaller dia hose which comes off the side. Also, not sure if this is related. I have noticed that the front area of the engine bay behind the rad, is splattered with white looking deposits. This is all over the front area, around apollo tank, chassis etc. Also some of this has blown further back around pedal box. Some of it has also come up through bonnet grills on offside. I can't see how this is related to the leak, as this is lower down, and trickles down onto side of sump. I don't think it is water spray from the road, as car never goes out in the wet, doesn't look like dirty water anyway. These deposits are white sort of crusty/salty looking. Any ideas would be appreciated. Still Shaking.

    Yokohama A539

My tyres are 195/50/15. I just want a tyre thats a lot more grippy than the Michelin, but gets a reasonable mileage (maybe 10,000). I'm not sure I want the hassle and cost of replacing them every 3000/4000 miles (thats probably two sets a year!, I'm sure her indoors would not be impressed!) Still Shaking

Anybody have any experience of these. Been offered a full set almost new, at very good price, to replace my crappy Michelins. I anticipate 90% road use. What do you reckon??????????? Still Shaking

    Tyres

Spoke to Polley's this afternoon. As I'm probably doing 90% road use, with occasional track day, the guy I spoke to thought I might be better off with Yoko AVS sport tyres. Anybody had any experience of these tyres????????? They're also cheaper than AO48's. Still Shaking

    Noise levels

Engine is 1600 supersport. I tested the reading on my drive, although this is surrounded by a garage, fencing, and hedges. Maybe I need to be out in the open? Noise meter is the usual cheapo mail order gadget (£40 I think it cost) Still Shaking
