  1. You are also "modifying" the primary safety system (albeit with good intent) away from the manufacturers design. Have you advised your insurers of these mods?

All I do at insurance renewal is attach a list of all modifications and changes to the car, including items such as brake pad material and brake fluid, plus get a confirmation of receipt. Over kill maybe, but the insurance company have never objected (but I haven't made a claim either!)

    Malcolm.

  2. CC parts previously indicated the narrow portion in the shoulder straps will allow a better fit on a HANS. CC also said have stopped selling the Luke 6 point (some old stock for the SV is left) due to Luke not applying for FIA Approval on the latest 6 point version.

Has anybody fitted this specific one from CC, as I need a new set? Presumably this season Acadamy cars have this fitted.

    (apologies for thread hijack)

    Paul,

I've run the QED remote for over 10 years with no problems whatsoever, rock solid temperatures. Added bonus is it makes coolant refills and avoidance of air locks easy.

Downside is the price (I was lucky to get one second hand). Requires a small amount of plumbing work.

  4. Later cylinder heads (with an auto tensioner) require a hole drilling and tapping to accept a manual tensioner. The cylinder head casting has the appropriate internal boss, just not drilled and tapped.

This was done for me by a L7C member and was straight forward, with the cylinder head on the bench. I guess it could be done in situ with precautions against swarf.

  5. For the sump gasket on my twin cam, if it is a cork type, I fit it using gasket adhesive (eg Permatex Aviation), brush on and allowed to cure with light pressure from the sump for 12 hours before correct torque on the sump bolts. This will stop the gasket extruding when the bolts are torqued. Also easy to clean off with solvent compared to RTV on engine dis-assembly.

Also ensure the sump fitting flange is flat prior to fitting - it can get distorted at the bolt holes from previous over torquing.

  6. “they are drilled to fit your chassis”

The lowered floors are supplied undrilled, so it is necessary to use a hole finder to accurately drill the underside front and inner flange holes. The outer and rear vertical flanges can be drilled using the side / rear panels as jigs, with the floor in its correct fitted position.

Edit to add 5/32” hole finder:
