  1. 12 days to go Just updated my Just Giving page with what I'm doing! I've managed to get my heart rate down from my earlier (embarrassing) efforts but am now reducing the regularity of my runs now to avoid injuring myself ahead of the big day. Still, managed a full 10 miles on the cross trainer the other day! Shame it's so much easier than a proper run 😔 None the less, had it on quite a high setting and did it in an hour and a half. I'm going to pretend that's good Laurence
  2. I'm entering the Great South Run! I think I've got stitch already Please visit my Just Giving page. Surely someone would like to put a pound into my online total Laurence Edited by - peardrop on 13 Oct 2009 21:25:53
  3. On the back of the present Renault F1 scandal, it appears NZ are also accused of match fixing in lawn bowls. I think this is an absolute disgrace This is robbing the Asia Pacific championships - and the sport - of their credibility! If the public are to respect the sport then suitable sanctions need to be made against the NZ team. Laurence
  4. Assuming it's the same car - and there can't be too many Triple engined 11s about - I met the owner at an East Sussex area meet a couple years back. You could hear it from miles off and it sounded fantastic! Laurence
  5. Castrol R. Breath it in 😬 Laurence
  6. /strips off an oils up /flexes Laurence
  7. Here! Reminds me of the first series of Look Around You. Anyone remember that? An enormous pair of scissors has appeared in the sky, directly above the building! Laurence
  8. I've just learnt how to play Perfect by Fairground Attraction on the guitar! Doesn't exactly help that rock image I was looking for but who cares. Any suggestions for good sing-a-long songs from the sheds? Laurence
  9. YHM Fletch, I think Laurence
  10. Look at how posting has dropped off between '06 and '08 ☹️ Nice to see Hoopy still near the top of board Laurence
  11. Well, that was fun 😬 Went to Brands, saw our man with his Formula Ford, gave him the shocks, milled about the pit lane, saw loads of Sevens (I take it there's a Graduates race this weekend) and V de V cars, came home, took the Seven out, broke down, got towed home ... Bloody car! Good day though Fletch, send us an email and we'll arrange that pint. Laurence
  12. Shock absorbers, Fletch Been trying to figure out what would have had to go wrong on the back of the Brawn. I think I heard it was off the ride damper. There's an awful lot of stuff that would have to break before the spring would come off, unless the damper or shaft itself failed Laurence
  13. Well, if you need a little encouragement, let me know. I'm being incredibly proactive at the minute. Hopefully it'll pay off 😬 Laurence
  14. I believe I'm being paid to look pretty It's a Formula Ford test day and there are a number of cars using our gear. Laurence
  15. At the risk of making people think I have bi polar disorder and suffer ridiculous mood swings It looks like I'm going to Brands on Friday and get paid to be in the pit lane doing ... erm ... stuff! Yay for getting out of Wyevale 😬 Laurence
  16. Ah? What happens in three weeks? Laurence
  17. Actually, it's quite exciting It would appear that there are some interesting and witty people out there who have also taken the plunge. Could be an interesting month Lesley: I've been a miserable sod since April, for not good reason at all. It's time to make a change! Laurence Edited by - Peardrop on 28 Jul 2009 22:53:57
  18. I've joined a dating website ... Augh Scary! Has it really come to this? Am I desperate, brave or insane? Laurence
  19. That's all I have to say. Oh well, onwards and upwards Laurence
  20. I still dislike rolling kayaks as much as I did when I was a kid but it didn't stop me completing the 1 star today 😬 Excellent tutor Have another BTTT Laurence
  21. I bought my 5 3/4" lamps from Westfield Laurence
  22. I stripped the paint off the bonnet after I had the rest of the car reskinned in bare ally. I reckon it *is* possible to achieve a good result but I didn't have the patience to do a good job and I wouldn't do it again, nor would I consider doing a whole car. I wouldn't recommend doing it, either. If you do choose to go this way, I stripped the paint off with Nitromors and first tried polishing the bare metal using a mop attachment for a drill together with compounds bought in a kit online (if you do a search in tech talk you'll find links to a couple companies). That said, I quickly found I could achieve a better result using increasingly fine grades of wet and dry - I think I ended with 1500 grit - and finishing with repeated application of autoglym metal polish. You can tell where I put the effort in because the "test" area looks no worse than the rest of the car. You can also tell where I was running out of patience because the rest of the bonnet looks quite dull in comparison. Any deep scratches you make when stripping the paint will show through, too - particularly around the vents and other tight angles. Given the bonnet will be replaced when I swap the engine out, I'm not too fussed. It's certainly no show car, though. Laurence
