  1. Finally had a chance to sort out my GoPro footage see video Great fun, chase down CSR in my Standard R300K. Great evening, thanks Merrick. Jon
  2. I was advised and fitted 2.15m of Acoustafil S2 1000gms x 500mm back in 2009 to my R300k. This took the noise reading down from 101.6dBC with the old used packing to 91.4dBC with acoustafil at 4500rpm. I tested in Sept 2010 and the reading was 91.5dBC and I have just re-tested May 2012 and the reading is still about the same at only 91.3dBC, so much better durability than the standard packing. Jon
  3. Thank you Ian, but no this is me here and Elie I was talking in the context of a SMART repair, were less time = less money, so spending days and doing a muiltable re-sprays isn’t a viable option, for example, it took Caterham (TSK) over a week to get a good colour match, that they were happy with, on some replacement rear wings I had fitted to my car when it was only 6 months old. Jon
  4. Hi, I have owned a Revive! Mobile car care Franchise for 6 years (recently featured in EVO here and Autoexpress here ), and would like to draw caution in using SMART repair techniques on your 1998 seven. Quite simply trying to do a spot repair on any paint this old and getting a good colour match and blend is nearly impossible, added to the fact that this car would probably have paint colours that are exclusive to Caterham’s paint sprayers TSK in Dartford. The techniques we now employ at Revive, allow us to repair brand new and nearly new cars to extremely high standards (in some cases better than body shop) that are within our remit, so much so that we offer a lifetime, no quibble, ownership guarantee on our repairs and are approved by car manufactures to do some warranty work. So I have no problem repairing a 2 day old £150k Mercedes, for example, but I would prefer not to repair your seven, and I am experienced enough to know which primer to use on both the aluminium and gel coat panels! My advice would be to find a good local paint shop with good colour matching abilities and get them to do the repair/s, or take in your nose cone into them, so they can analyze the colours and make the paint up for you, (if you can find someone else to spray it), but don’t use a “cheep as chips” guy who doesn’t know what primer to use, he’s out of his depth. 5. There is an Acoustafil calculator http://www.thermalvelocity.co.uk/calc/calc2.asp So for example on a K series Superlight R3/4/500 STD Caterham titanium silencer it suggests 2.5m (500 x 50) As Nolimits has said above the manufacture Saveguard will calculate your required length and they calculated 2.356m to be correct for my Superlight, this as Andy Whittle suggests in the previous thread this is hard work to squeeze into the can (successfully achieved though) and therefore is tightly packed. I did query with Saveguard there pictures on their web site to make sure that I was doing this correctly which they confirmed, they did give an explanation for there loosely packed pictures but I have forgotten what that was. It could be that they do various Fabric Styles, I am using S2 Glass as it works up to 900 Degrees . Nolimits do you use S2 Glass and does this mean you pack your exhausts tightly or loose? Jon
  6. I am also very happy with my Acousta-fil, and this is why Sound meter readings, which are Old Caterham standard packing after 7000 miles @ 4500rpm = 101.6 dBA When new, Acousta-fil packing April 2009 @ 4500rpm = 91.4 dBA Today, Acousta- fil packing after, track days, rolling road session, and long trip to South West France, 6000 miles in total @ 4500rpm = 91.5 dBA
  7. Just doing a quick installation run after re-packing my exhaust with Acousta-fil, so good to know it still sounds good, as it is quieter than before! 😬 Jon
  8. I too am about to install acoustafil into my standard R3/4/500 silencer. I also contacted them and spoke to Steve Shaughnessy there Technical Director, who was very helpful. He told me that if I could tell them the length/ outer diameter and inner perf diameter they could work out how much fabric was required. So in my case (using their higher grade Fabric S2 Glass, my choice after reading this) Length: 500mm Outer Diameter: 150mm Inner Perf Diameter: 65mm. Fabric Style: S2 Glass Fabric Weight: 1000gsm Weight per lin Metre: 500 g Fabric Length required to fill at 150g/litre: 2.15 metres Price per metre £9.00 plus Freight (£10) They manufacture there fabrics in various widths, and can sell it by the metre, and supplied me with the length above, so no need for stitching! Will give up date once fitted Jon
  9. I have recently been looking into re-packing material for my superlight exhaust and I spoke to Caterhams exhaust suppliers Cheesman Products and they informed me that they are now using Advantex in there packing for new exhausts. They also informed me that they have supplied CC, very recently with new re-packing kits also containing Advantex. I have also been looking at Aciusta-fil from Saveguard and would be interested if anyone else has tried this. Seehere Jon
  10. Saw rear from a distance outside Sensorcom in Beckenham Jon Miles
  11. That was me , just popped down from Bromley Kent, to visit a friend in East Cornwall. This friend is currently awaiting delivery of a kit from Caterham, so I was just out giving him a demo 😳 🥰, he now has trouble sleeping!!! Shame that you need fuel as the roads are great down there for having a lot of fun. I will be back. Jon Miles
