    1.4 SS

Hi P mole my car has a yellow plastic dipstick I take it yours must be metal? my gearbox was difficult from first to second and after seeking advice from club members years ago I changed the gearbox fluid to Redline Mtl . The difference was amazing . Try it! I think you will notice the change. I am afraid I can't help with the ecu question but with regard to engine mods I do know that some of the early 1.4 engines have a head that is not worth porting due to its design . i would direct you to Dave Andrews web site as all the info you need is on there (look for Dva power) He posts on here as oilyhands and is the go to guru for K series . Hope some of this helps. John.
  2. Hi Colin. when mine failed the symptoms were very similar to what you describe. It is possible to open up the Mfru and then you can see each relay. It is possible that the relay in question has become pitted with use and age.If so clean the contacts up with some fine wet or dry or similar and see if that does the trick. Have you checked the fuel cut off is not tripped? If you have further problems or questions it might be a good idea to post on the tech talk page as I am sure you will get more response and help there John.
  3. Try giving Mick at Redline a ring .I am sure I got mine from them . If he doesn't have one he may know where you can get one. John.
  4. Martyn. Go to the Home page then click on "guides" .Scroll down the page a bit and the service guide is there. You can print it off. John.
  5. Hi Alan Try Carsten.Filmer@gmx.de John.
  6. Thanks for all the replies .I think I will invest in some of the Halfords type filter pliers cheers all. John.
  7. is it me or are these a bit more trouble than they are worth! The last few years I have always managed to loosen the old oil filter by wearing rubber gloves and turning by hand. Today though no chance...it wouldn't budge.Tried my chain wrench...hopeless I couldn't get it to stop slipping. Reverted to great big Phillips and great big hammer!!!....result. Took seconds ....good job I don't need the old filter though! John.
  8. Mine did this . neatest and best solution as sm25t says ....Dowty washer. John.
  9. Fuel tank sender or maybe a tank baffle?
  10. Hi Malcolm. you could try an outfit called Mini technique. they are close to me and he has all sorts of hard to find bits and pieces ,sensors etc. Dont be fooled by the name ,he has lots of metro gti bits just Google the name . He is in Pilling near Garstang. hope this helps. John.
  11. Yours painted is it? Come on it's just a bit of fun!
  12. Honestly ! some of this obsession with lightness cracks me up. Lets all go on a diet. for what it's worth I weigh in at 150lbs .
  13. I will try to post a picture tomorrow. John.
  14. Just fitted a Carbon handbrake grip supplied by Carsten Filmer in Germany. The quality is very good and the fit just right. It makes a nice cosmetic upgrade and looks miles better than the original grip. recommended. John.
  15. I can vouch for the above. Verniers totally transformed my car.The factory timing was miles out! John.
  16. Gordon. yes that's it in a nutshell Le are early 1400 k series that caterham used up when further supplies looked unlikely due an industrial action at Rover. that is when they put the Vauxhall engine in the classic ( I think!!) John.
  17. Gordon. I agree with The Ash's comments in that all the LE 1400 ss seem to be fitted with the alloy plenum. my car is no 25 and has this arrangement. the throttle mod mentioned is just a matter of modifying the throttle cable quadrant on the outside of the throttle body by removing the throttle stop .you will need to use a small hacksaw or a dremmel for this. This will enable the throttle butterfly to open a fraction more. Mine is modified but to be honest I can tell no real difference in performance! as for the difference eul to eu2 I am afraid I don't know but am sure oily hands will Hope this helps John.
