    From memory it was 175 lb ft torque and 230 bhp. There should be a bit more to come when I get to try the cam timing where it should be (at the moment its nowhere near optimum as the piston pockets are too small) . Also I have some different (longer) trumpets to try which I think should help get the peak power within my rev range 😬

  2. I was at the rolling road on Tuesday getting the babe magnet mapped 😬

    I have been there lots of times and am still amazed and fascinated by their attention to detail *eek*

    Sorted out the bad running problems and found the reason for it being a "bitch" to map! It looks as if the roller barrel opens the wrong way *eek* so my project for the winter is to reverse it and hopefully that will sort it out nicely *smokin*

    Then I can get back there and try out some different trumpet lengths and injector positions etc *smokin*

    A big *thumbup* to Steve and Steve 😬 A superb job as usual *smokin*

     

    Cant wait to drive it now 😬

  5. The official story is.................

     

    I pulled this good looking girlie and decided that she needed impressing by my cars performance as well as mine *wink* so we went on a blat down some lovely country lanes driving flat out on the limiter most of the way. Overtaking everything in sight etc etc and generally being a hero *smokin*

    After the needle of the rev counter being repeatedly banged on the stop at 10000rpm it finally broke *cry*

     

    or the alternative story.............

     

    I stopped at a friends house for a cuppa/chat etc and when I got in the car to leave,i put the ignition on and the rev counter does its reset thing it broke before I even started the engine *eek*

     

    One of these is true but I am not saying which 😳

  6. After 9 years with my 7 I have broken many components. I call this "destruction testing"

     

    To be honest the car has had its fair share of abuse, I guess, including lots of trackdays a few sprints and lots of abusive launches at the drag strip (1.5 sec 60ft times) as well as thousands of road miles all around the country.

     

    In no particular order I have broken a few clutches, gearbox(a few times), some alternators etc etc and have replaced the offending items with something which is more up to the job.

    Personally I put these things down to excessive bhp/revs and general abuse.

    Since these teething problems I have not had any failures for ages (read years) till today

     

    I feel very stupid having overlooked the need to up-rate this component 😳 but since its only 18months old I felt that it would be ok for a while but hindsight is a wonderful thing

     

    So the main point of the question is do Stack make an up-rated needle for their dash/rev counter as I have broken it in half *eek*

  7. For me the most important thing about getting a car/engine on a dyno/rolling road is to get it mapped correctly so it does not damage itself and drives nicely which Steve does a superb job of!

     

    I have seen a few dodgy dyno's where they have damaged various things. This is why I will only go to Steve now!

    My theory on your cars power figure and your clutch issue at that time would make your power figure higher than it actually is 😳

  8. The results I have had from Steve Greenald are always consistant *thumbup* 100% *thumbup*

    And I have seen quite a few over the years.

     

    I have used quite a few places for dyno and rolling road work and have never seen it done as well. They do the job properly and are very fair with their pricing too!

    This is why I will only go there. They are very good with pretty much all the popular ecu's as well as more basic carbs/points/distributor set ups.

  9. Following a few enquiries regarding the trailor Dave will need it to take the car to HTR to get the Hart engine and gearbox removed, but it will become available after that. I'll re post at that time. Engine is in the process of being sold so it shoulbn't take too long.

    Following their runs the other week Arnie Webb and Dave Edmands were interested to know more about how the calcs were done.

    It was unfortunate that we had issues with both their cars getting the usual repeatability and accuracy of power figures, however we now know how to deal with these cars if they can make it back to us sometime.

    It may sound odd, but these two cars are quite exceptional and present more of a challenge to test accurately than the 733 BHP (Rev limited to 7000rpm) Ex TWR Jag V12 Group C car we tested recently.

    One of the main reasons for this is gearing. The higher the top speed the better as far as we're concerned.

     

    I asked Rudi at www.dynosystems.de who makes our rollers if he could pass on a bit of info as to how the figures to post this reply it may help everyone to have a better understanding of the system.

    Any interested parties should visit Rudi's website and if anyone wants any further information I suggest they email Rudi themselves as we're too busy to enter into long drawn out discussions.

     

    We're convinced enough of the RR's accuracy. But as with our work ethic, we wish everything we do to be totally transparent.

    Hi Steve,

     

    RR_clc.exe:

    you have

     

    a) power at the wheels and power losses.

    b) correction factor (DIN, SAE, whatever)

     

    RR_CLC multiplies the power at the wheels x correction

    factor. Then the power losses get added to this.

     

    We calculate a formula for the power losses so that we

    can add them more accurately together and so that we

    can remove incorrect spikes, such as a clutch which

    will not disengage immediately, stuff like that.

    A short blip on the brakes will also be disregarded

    (but not a long burst of brakes).

    It is important that you always ensure that the yellow

    line (calculated by the PC for the losses) sits on top

    of the green (=recorded during power run). Only then

    is the power test valid/correct.

     

    I think that is about it.

     

    Our software is the only software which allows you to

    see the calculated losses (yellow) and the measured

    losses (green). Other systems, such as Sun "surprise"

    you with a result and you have no telling what they

    have done internally with the data. On ours, the

    secret is unveiled, i.e. there is none, it is a simple

    addition of

     

    flywheel power =

    (power@wheels x correction_factor_engine) + power_loss

  12. If its done properly then its very safe,very simple and works very well.

     

    The limiting factors are as Oily has stated the weak link in the engine ie pistons head gasket rods crank etc.

     

    The nice thing with nos is that it also increases torque at a similar rate to bhp. The downside to this is the clutch and drivetrain have to be able to cope with it.

     

    A nos controller is a very good way of dealing with this as it can be made to be very progressive and therefore gentler on the engine and drivetrain etc.

     

    In a 7 its probably not going to make that much difference as far as the traffic lights grand prix is concerned as most 7's are traction limited anyway.

    In fact will most likely make it slower off the line.

     

    Its not illegal to use nos on the road but you must have a sign on the back of the car stating it has a non flammable compressed gas inside. Incase of an accident/fire etc

     

    Also I am not sure how your insurance company would view it!

    When you saw it fitted to the engine in my car how certain are you that it was my engine *wink*

    A friend has a vx engine with 12.7 comp. It runs with carbs and mapped ignition and he uses Optimax fuel.

    It was mapped by Steve G and it runs like a dream with no signs of det etc after a recent strip down of the head etc.

     

    As long as its mapped well as in this case it should be fine.

  15. In terms of pure design it is very conventional and years behind the K in concept, however it is probably more robust because of it.

     

    Trouble with the k is that is was designed with numerous flaws which should never have made it into production *eek*

     

    To be honest I think that the designers were smoking some illegal substances when they let it loose for production *eek*

     

    Either that or they did it for a laugh 😳

     

    Surely being a bit forward thinking is not a good enough excuse for manufacturing a badly designed product *confused*

     

    I reckon my mum could have done a better job *eek*
