I've spent some time using the search facility and reading the 'owner's handbook' but I'm still not clear on this. Maybe someone can clarify!
Car is a 2004 R400 K series. It has the Stack instrument pack and the Caterham shift light (a cut-down ACES unit, which isn't 'user' configurable as far as I know).
What I want to know is the relationship between engine rev limit setting, the ability to set "RPM Limit' in the Stack unit, and how this relates to the shift lights?
So:
1. Maximum engine speed (hard cut-off) is set in the engine ECU, I think, and isn't affected by the 'RPM Limit' facility that can be adjusted and set within the Stack unit; is that right? (For a standard R400 K, I understand that the soft limit is 8000rpm and the hard limit is 8050).
2. Is the point at which the shift lights come on and increasingly light up (ie: more oranges come on and then the red) pre-set and independent of the settings elesewhere on the car (for instance, either in the ECU or the Stack 'RPM Limit' facility)?
3. If so, what is the engine speed/rpm at which the final red light comes on?
4. What is the function of the 'RPM Limit' facility in the Stack unit? I'm guessing that it isn't linked to the way that the separate Caterham branded sequential shift lights work, nor to any rev limit set on the engine via the ECU. So does that mean that it either (i) sets the point at which the built-in (in the Stack) alarm light comes on as a 'change gear now alarm' or is (ii) the trigger point for an external single shift-light system.
I know this all sounds trivial but I can't get my mind around it - so any advice or knowledge would be welcome!
