  1. My gear box whines so much I can't hear the wife, let alone the A021 Rs...
  2. No worries, pal. All I went on was what Mr Shaw told me and showed me, but by the sound of it you are probably right. I've got to check that one out! Cheers! Andreas
  3. Oilyhands, I may have gotten that one wrong, by the sound of it. I am not particularly technically minded, so forgive my stupidity. The idle jet that was put in had a smaller fuel outlet and a bigger air hole in it than the F9. Andreas.
  4. My Vx 16v has exactly the same problem. Standing starts are a nightmare, pulling away from junctions a hazardous game of throttle control. Once over 3000 rpm, it flies. 2 rolling road sessions have failed to resolve the problem, but as it was running very rich, the idle jets were changed fromm 55F9 to F6, which leaned it out a bit, but didn't affect the flat-spot. Mr Shaw in Daventry did however comment on the size of the choke-it is a 40 as opposed to a 36, which seems to be more common, and he theorised that this might be the problem. I don't know, and am a bit reluctant to spend money on four new chokes at the moment. Came across a friendly Subaru driver the other day, and saw it take off like a champagne cork, whilst mine was coughing, spitting and bogging down... Andreas.
  5. Good point, Andrew. The Caterham I saw was an R500 at Midlands today, where the friendly chap in the showroom came up with the suggestion. It was running 205/50s on the rear. A.
  6. My Vx 16v sits on 13" minilites, shod with 185/60s all round, and I just realised that some cars have bigger rears. So, what do other people recommend for it, bearing in mind it's a wide track car with a LSD. I use A021-Rs at the moment, and am happy with them. Cheers! Andreas
  7. I was just going to say that is a rather personal question, until I read your post! Sorry, can't help you on that one, mine's dry-sumped. A.
  8. Cheers for the advice, Chris. I'll have a look at that as soon as it stops drizzling outside! We messed around with main, idle and pump jets as well as mixture screws, to no avail. We also tried changing jets between a Westf1eld with 40s( ie different size jets ), but this was not a good idea. lol! Andreas.
  9. Hi! Does anybody know of a good Carb specialist in the Midlands area( I live near Daventry, Northants )? I have balanced my carbs with the aforementioned carb flow meter( brilliant ), but there is still a huge cough and almost cut-out when flooring it from low revs, ie idling, whereas the car goes well above 2000 rpm( Vx 16v ). Pain in the anus. Thanks. Andreas.
  10. Can I ask a naive question here? I have read all the posts relating to these meters with interest, and am considering ordering one. However, I have no idea how to use the sucker let alone how to tune a carburettor, so my question is, do I need a PhD, or could a thicko like me do it? What's the procedure? Cheers! Andreas.
  11. The car has a straight cut box. I'll try the 6000 rpm version tomorrow, and I'll check the plugs as well. Thanks for the info! A.
  12. My 2l Vx, basically an unmodified HPC with 45s, runs reasonably well otherwise, but I am having increasing and disconcerting problems pulling away from junctions, when the car often bogs down for severeal seconds. Of lesser importance is the fact that I can't get good figures from my AP22 for the same reason! Is this a simple carb adjustment problem or something else? I am not a tech, but fortunately I don't live too far from Caterham Midlands, so if that's what's recommended, that's where I'll go. Any advice grateful. Andreas.
  13. A spark blug brush... I learn something every day! Haha! I think that's a good idea! A.
  14. Cheers guys, The PLUG!!! Sorted, and now it's enjoyed a fast hour in Northamptonshire!! Thanks for your help! Andreas.
  15. Well, I had a rolling road tune done recently and my Vx HPC ran OK for two days. Then left it for a week, now it hardly starts, seems like it's running on 2 or 3 cylinders, and has lost virtually all power, to the extent that it is almost impossible to pull away from standstill. Any ideas? The engine has only done 1900 miles. Cheers! Andreas.
