  1. Thank you Graham but we didn't think the problem was due to the tyres. They used what looked like a "probe" or a ruler that when you rotate the wheel you can see the inside edge of the wheel getting closer to the fixed end of the probe when the wheel is rotated half circle
  2. And yes I did use torque wrench 75nm and didn't over-tightened the nuts.
  3. Any one please had issues with balancing Apollo wheels? New wheels and tyres arrived yesterday. Four caterham apollo 13x6" wheels and R888R 13x60x185 front and 205x60x13 rear. All bought from Demon tweek and tyres were fitted and balanced by them. I noticed that all the wheels got 50 weight balance on the inside rim (my understanding 50 is the max allowed weight balance) Put them on and went for a drive and I could see the front wheels not rolling smooth and I can feel very minor vibration at steering wheels. Took the car today to kwickfit to check balance and the reading was high (85, 75, 55) and you can visually see non smooth rotation. I asked them to rebalance the wheel but they could only do static balance. Is this a known issue with apollo wheels and I should just live with it? Should I return them back? will demon tweet take them back after fitting, driving for a day and rebalncing? Thank you for your thoughts Ahmed
  4. What car and tyres is yours Nick. Mine is SV 2003 roadsport. I currently have 90mm sump clearance on 16x45x205 and "I think" I can see about may be 20mm tread on the dampers. Mt dampers is the standard Caterham ones. With 13x60x185 i will loose 19mm in the ride height but hopefully i could adjust the dampers to compensate for the loss.
  5. Thank you, David. Yes, garage has flat floor and corner weighted . Tried to do a test with 2 screw drivers to move the height adjusters after soaking them with gas plus but they didn't move. I may need to jack the car up as Ian suggested.
  6. So, back to the main topic. did I get this right: I need to sort the toe, camber, caster and 80 mm sump clearance. Then EITHER, 15mm rake higher rear OR corner weighting because I can't have both rake and corner weighting same time-correct? Anything else?
  7. And BTW, I never understood how the corner weight is being done. How you adjust the weight. My understanding is you adjust the height at the suspension but how would you change a weight of a corner?
  8. Thank you for your reply. - Will go for R888R 13x60x185 front and 13x60x205 rear. this will reduce the height by 19mm - wheels will be caterham apollo 6" front and rear (hope it won't catch in the de dion at the rear) - not too many options up north. Deardnaught garage does caterham service but long drive away and not specialised in alignment and setup. Kenny brown is a well known name for sport car setup in Glasgow but not specialized in Caterham - as for toe, car is only for road, but I need better handling in the corner as I find my current setup and tyres "interesting" at the corners. - my other current setting are: --- Rear hight (black arrow) 178mm (which is LOWER than the front, ie no nose down stance) --- Didn't measure camber and Castor but from reading in the archive, i found Camber: 1.2-1.4 -ve camber for front and 1.3-1.5 -ve camber for rear and 3-6 +ve castor - need to go to a building yard and buy some slabs and blocks ;-)
  9. Have been reading about setup and had useful conversation with Phil Reynolds. I am going to take the car to a motor engineering (kennith Brown) for setup. But i would like to make sure i have the correct information: As far as I understand I should aim for the following: - Rear arm of front wishbone should be parallel to the ground (ie, the white and red arrow distance in the pic should be the same. - Distance measured from the front of rear arch to the ground (black arm) should be 15mm more than the white arm - sump should be 80mm clear All the above measurements should be taken with the car loaded (in my case, 2 persons and 1/2 tank) I performed some measurements today (with no load in the car) and here they are: Sump clearance: 90mm, White arrow 200mm, red arrow 190mm ie the rear arm of front wishbone are NOT parallel to the ground. - Q1) Am I putting the measurement arrows at the correct points? - Q2) I am going to change my tyres from 16" to 13" but can't get my head around how the rear arm of the front wishbone could be parallel to the ground while maintaining the sump clearance (going for 13" will make the red arrow even shorter and to get wishbone arm parallel, the white arrow would need to get shorter as well and therefore the sump clearance will become less than 80mm- correct me please if i am wrong) - Q3) Regarding the toe: the assembly manual says 0.2 toe "in". But I read on many threads it is toe "out" not "in"...!!!! - Q4) If the engineer is not keen to do the setup with the car loaded, should the above figures still apply or there should be different measurements for unloaded car? - Q5) What about flat flooring? is corner weighting really something that I should try and get it done (not sure if the engineer will be doing it. and I am not capable of doing it myself) Many thanks for your help Ahmed

    Trolley Jack

Found some oil leak under my caterham low profile trolley jack today. I wonder if it is related to use on tintop car. It is 2.25 Ton so should be ok to be used on Wife's Audi TT. It is 5 years old but not used that often (errm, may be 20 time since purchase). Never serviced it, repalced or changed the oil. Questions please: - Do you service, top up, or replace oil of your trolley jack on annual basis? Do you do it yourself (local company charge £40 to do service!) - Any suggestion for a reasonably priced one (my range wa 80-360mm) may be one that could go higher than 360mm thank you Ahmed
  11. For a newbie who doesn't have an angle grinder and was always told not to play with fire, would a screwdriver without modification do the job for me? :-)

    Bulb upgrades

If I am only replacing the rear indicator (ie not changing the front with a combined DRL), would i still need to replace the relay? if the answer is yes, where is the relay is located in the car-any pic please? regards
  13. Hi, Jonathan. We are away for the long weekend. When I am back I will make some measurements.
  14. Thank you Ian, Any advice about size of the c spanner. Yes, I am concerned about seized ring. Would PlusGas/WD40 be helpful here? I take it they are ok to use on the suspension?
  15. Any suggestions please for a spanner/wrench for adjusting the suspension. Here is a pic of my suspensions Thank you Ahmed
  16. My thinking is if I am going for tyre change, I just do it once and for all. People with 15" change to 13" so it may be wise just to go to 13" in one step. Size 205x60x13 will only reduce the height gain with 6mm therefore my current wing stay should be ok. (185x60x13 will reduce the ride by 19mm)
  17. Thank you Mucus. I am really not keen at at changing the wing stay. If I leave a big gap, is it just the "look" or more "lifting power on the wing? I think my options should be narrowed to: 13x60x205 (CR28 or R888R) or 13x60x185 R888R Also for the wheels, any suggestion for light weight not expensive ones please. Thank you
  18. Hello, all. I would like to change my 16" tyres to either 13 or 14". Car is Roadsport, SV, 1.8 K series, 140bhp, used mainly for road/touring/blatting. I have Avon ZZ3 on 16x45x205 front & rear. I would like to change to more grippy tyres. I understand I may need to do some changes to the suspension setup and speedo but tyres HAVE to be : A- Grippy on damp roads B- No changes required to the wing stay (ie tyre rolling circumference less than 180cm, 5' 10.87" which is equivalent to size 13x70x185 ) I have been watching a couple of current threads and had a good look at the archive and here is my understanding of the current available legal road tyres: - Avon ZZS: may be good in wet but doesn't come in the right size (the closest is 13x55x155 which may be too small) - Avon CR28: comes in 13x60x205 and 14x60x185 - Toyo R888R comes in 13x60x205 and 13x60x185 and 14x60x185 but wet grip E - Uniroyal Rainexpert3: good price and comes in 13x70x185 (but speed rating 118mph and also it is designed for "normal" cars so not sure about performance in light weight cars) - Uniroyal Rainexpert: comes in 14x60x185 speed rating 130mph. I am having difficulty deciding which one to go for and appreciate your views please Regards Ahmed

Are the LED bulbs just direct replacement for the original bulbs or I do need to do any modification to the light circuit or the fuses? Ahmed
  21. I didn't cut anything in the recess. I just enlarged one of the side holes on the plastic box cover and it fit perfectly. The matrix is of a much better quality than the original Caterham one
  22. Mark, Any update/pics yet? thank you Ahmed
  23. Paul, Are these aluminium/steel rivets? how do you remove them (if needed)? Ahmed
  24. Jonathan, do you have a pic please for your jack mounted on front of the heater? Thank you. Ahmed
