  1. Roger, Thanks for the info, I was not aware that water temp is more critical than oil temp, but I'm not a specialist. I want to use my 7 for track / sprints, and will add moving the oil cooler to my upgraditis list (3d mapping, more engine tweaks, dry sumping etc...). Greg Q 990 RAE
  2. Roger, I've a oil cooler infront of Rad thing, why would you favour cooling Water instead of Oil. My car seems to stay arround 80c 90c in trafic, which seems Ok to me. Q 990 RAE
  3. Ah, The only other solutions I've seen id s drill bit attachment. I want something that will do the real area, the little bits left can be done by hand. I've found that after washing my hands three times only my finger nails are black ! Q 990 RAE
  4. I've had my Ali / green Caterham 7 a week, and its wonderfull. But today I gave it a clean (10 mins), and polished the Ali with Mothers (2 hours) is there an easy way with either a power tool, or a specialist that will do it for a reasonable price? Q 990 RAE
  5. So not cheap then ... I've obviously developed upgradits, and I've only had the car a week (well Paul Harvey has ... as the starter gave up!). I wondering what I should do next, as the car has a nice engine, gearbox, diff, suspension. Dry sumping seems to be as expensive..... But I'll probably need a new set of tryes soon anyway ! So a toss up between map ignition or Dry-sumping ... Q 990 RAE
  6. How much does such a 3d mapping cost, don't you need to put the car on a rolling road to mapp it ? (i.e cost of unit, plus labour, plus road ...)
  7. Thanks, I got a mate to give me a shove, and the car started fine. The mechanic said "that does not sound heathy", so the starter, solenoid or connections could be duff. I'll let him deal with it. Thanks all for the imput. I now want my car back ;-( Greg
  8. I'm interested in the Boot cover as long as its an FIA one, as I've an FIA bar, but the boot cover is an absolute b**ch to put on, apparently there are two types. Drop me an email if you've not got rid of it.
  9. Thanks Gents The battery appears fine, as in all the elecy bits work as you would expect on a decent battery. The connectors do look a bit iff, and I may have them replaced. I am about to try adding jump leads to see if that helps Greg
  10. Dear All I finally got a seven - yay ! It took 1 hour to get there to pick the car up, and 3 hours to get home, I took a few detours ! Anyway, the car seems to be reluctant to start. I turn the ignition on, fuel pump ticks away happily, and the turn the key to get the starter going, a loud click, which I assume is the starter motor relay engaging, and nothing. The starter will not turn the engine. Sometimes the starter turns the engine once and then give up. Any ideas ? I think the starter motor has died. Which is obviously an opportunity to get a lighter one. So does anyone have any suggestions of an easy to fit, superlight starter motor for a 1990 Xflow 1700 with a 1600 gearbox ? 11. Dear All I'm a 38ins chest and I was wondering what size club fleece to go for (Medium or Large) as some fleeces are bigger than others ! Thanks Greg
  12. Dear All As the future owner of an old XFlow, I'd like to source a tool kit specifically the jack. The car has a tissue box (mansized) shaped depression in the boot that looks toolbox sized. Also a hoodbag would be nice ! Ta Greg
  13. I've seen an add for a 7 xflow (green flaired wings, ali body) for sale in Surrey - Hampshire border - but its on the findit.co.uk site and there are no contact details :-( Does any one know anything about this car / who the owner may be, is it still for sale etc .... Greg

  15. I'm looking at arround 8k - tatyness is not an issue as the car is to live outside for the forseeable future. It would be nice if it had a few mods such as 4into1 exhaust, FIA bar, superlites etc .... But I've wanted a Caterham for years, and deciced that I might as well get one now whilst I have some spare cash, and waiting for when I've 20k for a superlight with XZY and a garage may take a while, and life's too short ! Send me some pics via email, I've a fast connection (he boasts). Greg
  16. Thanks everyone for the tips, Sadley (for me) it looks like someone else has beaten me to the car ;-( At least I now know what to look for, althought there appear to be few cars avaliable in my (limited) 8k-ish budget ...
  17. Arnie, I would love to do some DIY, but I do not have a garage, nor the time (seem to spend my life on a train between london and Brighton). Redline are near me, and are quite good by all accounts. Can you give a value for cheap ? Ps Is everthing still as shiny on your car as the pic's on the web ? Or do you do a lot of polishing ?
  18. Arnie Any figures on how much for a strip / rebuild ? i.e the cost of a rebuild chasis rebuild ? I read from your site you may have done this already ! Nice car mind. I was thinking that the Lotus 7 has its public debut at the Brighton speed trials, and last year you would have won a few classes with your car, may even got the best time. Greg
  19. Thanks for the WD40 advice - does the club do a discount, what with English weather and all .... Another Q - where and what to keep all this stuff in (WD40 and spares etc ...), is the engine bay "safe" (worried about the heat) and what is a good container ? Greg
  20. Thanks, Andy - they look like small surface patches - the car has a long MOT so this was either not an issue or not picked up at the last MOT. I'll get some hammerite - although getting a paint brush there will be fun .... John - Whats the WD40 for ? sounds obvious I know - but is there a particular use ? Greg
  21. Dear All I am thinking about buying an older, live axle car (8 yrs old) which has been well used and unpampered (but well serviced!). I will be leaving it outside, no garage ;-( Should I be concered about small rust patches on the chasis tubes (lower front on each side, behind front suspension area). This looks like anything one might find on an 8yr old car that has been well used .... but I am a little worried - what are my options. I know chasis can be replaced, but this sounds expensive .... Any thoughts appreciated. Greg
  22. Arnie, I was not creating rumours ... I do not have an issue with Caterham posting thier 2nd hand spares here - it seems like a logical place to advertise it. If others have an issue then fine, I'm new here so I'll shut up !
  23. I'm trying not to discourage them, just a helpfull pointer security wise (I'm in the IT trade - and secuirty is part of my job, so I had to get on my high horse ;-). Hopefully Caterham will continue to do some free advertising to lots of potential customers. I am sure that they will shift loads of stuff, and it's free ! Greg
  24. Sorry to sound very predantic - but I would not recommend email any credit card details in the clear - I would use pgp / openpgp encryption. Sorry to be a pain. Greg
