  1. Mick YHM 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white (and more and more black)bits.
  2. Anyone got Part Number for an Alternator - 1.4SS Rover K Series 1995 with Enclosed fan (stone protection, and it obvoiusly works) and 4 groove V belt (approx 60mm Pulley Diameter). I've sourced an alternator but can't remove old pulley wheel and fan (nut splitter time unless find socket with flats). I am assuming (normally mother of all ups) that given lack of ancillaries a 55A Alternator should do the job. A previous thread listed a Rover YLE101520. As I understand this and other later Alternators had different rear plug arrangement (post '96) and won't take the guard. Cheers 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white (and more and more black)bits.
  3. Cheers Mick. Idiot light no good with current sender. Showing 4-8 bar in normal running. Off to refit alternator now.. 😳 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white (and more and more black)bits.
  4. Farmhouse and Quarry Bends Runs 1 and 2. Unfortunately Car 51's launch over the gravel trap past the marshal post at Quarry was out of focus 🙆🏻. Drop me an e-mither with your number and I'll send a few of the best I have (should have at least one good one for each car ). All 6M Pixels so will print fine Top work folks, right, off to fit an alternator.... 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white (and more and more black)bits.
  5. Case of the 'Where that go' as finally replacing alternator (Yes they are pigs to remove with Long 4-1 exhaust and an Apollo 13 fitted) Firstly Plug connector Large Brown, Large Brown/Purple, Small Brown/Yellow - fine but for dodgy terminations. BUT.... Coming down to same point is a White with Brown Stripe sitting loose, bare wires exposed. Stumped Not going to put car back together until sure it serves no purpose and gets taped up. Could it be for secondary low oil pressure warning light or Oil temp which I don't have? Oil Pressure sender (10 bar VDO, rare as hens teeth) is only thing in proximity and has two terminals One occupied (Red) with no sign of anything EVER being connected to the other (Labelled WK). So off to Harewood on a beautifully sunny day in the *eek*ing tin top. At least now I know the James Herriot method of removing an alternator. 🙆🏻 😬 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white (and more and more black)bits.
  6. Slider@7 YHM re Minidisc. Recording tool required 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white (and more and more black)bits. Lets keep it moving this month shall we..
  7. Second time of asking ☹️. After Minators (13"x6" DeDion 4.25"PCD) Ideally like at least one that's outwardly VGC. May have to hold out 'til the season ends 😬 Consider singles through to full set. Ta Muchly Edited by - David Lynch on 14 Sep 2005 00:46:10
  8. Let me continue. Feel like the God's are poised with 🙆🏻's over me... Found Regulator for £8 from Wood Auto here but found one at a local Auto Electrical shop. Went and collected a Durite (Allegedly) 'High quality made in Germany' 0-831-55 for £20 😳. Now have two broken regulators as brushes snapped off (seemed brittle and weren't chamfered unlike original) on installing (thought I was being careful too) and one is somewhere in the Alternator casing . Any suggestions as to consequences? I'm utterly sick of this now. Old one goes in/out with same clash on back side to oil filter pipes yet brushes remain intact. Think it's time to get drunk and cry.... 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 27 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳, 1 Football Shaped Battery , 75cl Rioja Reserva Edited by - David Lynch on 6 Sep 2005 21:31:21
  9. Help Caterham and Redline both drawn a blank on this one (i.e they don't have one). 1995 De Dion with VDO gauges. Oil Pressure Sender (10bar) is erratic to say the least. Anyone got original part number or technical description so I can try and source/alternative. Better still, anyone got one gathering dust.. . I see VDO still do a similar Gauge in their Cockpit Vision range so assume they'll be my next stop Ta muchly Alternator Saga continues... 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 24 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳
  10. Automotive Electronics and Electrics: learning the hard way Click here to see what I found. Just getting depressed at thought of an engine out job for sake of an Alternator when thankfully decided to take what I'd described as a 'Brush Assembly' out again and find it online (mainly looking for alternator test methods). This IS the Voltage regulator that cuts alternator output when battery fully charged, which in my 7 destroyed a rather expensive DMS Varley Red Top 20 Battery ☹️ It is easily removed (3 tiny bolts and a cable spade connector) It's OEM ref is Mobiletron:VR-LC111 but suits masses of Rover, Magneti Marelli and Lucas units. Assuming I can get just this part guess I'm buying two (another essential spare) Now I need someway of protecting it from engine heat (in contact with oil hoses) and a new Red Top 20 £80 . Still, cheaper and quicker than building a new battery tray. 😬. 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 24 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳
  11. Saga continues. Refitted Brush Assembly (medium Loctite!), jump started and bingo running well..... until 1 hour running later sulphur smell filled the cabin. Time to bail, master switch off. Battery cooked inside (sealed for life PP3 sized Varley Red Top). So points to Alternator having dodgy regulator. So that's a new Alternator and Battery to add to my list of essentials as opposed to feeding upgraditis. 🙆🏻 AA faired much better tonight (thank you we'll call that one all) Drove 5 miles home with no bonnet, Alternator disconnected, AA's Battery pack on the bulkhead, and no lights 😳. Driving in shadow of myself in AA van main beam and roof lights Time to chill ☹️ If I can !! Need to find rating of Red Top and the Magneti Marelli Alternator to confirm compatible at all. Maybe never right in past, as partial charging. Has been through a few full discharge cycles in recent months thanks to rear view mirror falling off and hitting ancillaries and indicator switch 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 24 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳
  12. Thanks all. (Myles I will get round to building a copy of your Air Scoop one day .) Yes I do have an Apollo and very interesting getting primaries off. My battery is size of a PP3 so no chance of shorting. I found bolt missing from (and therefore loose) Brush assembly on back of alternator. Reckon it'd been off for some time as one brush was more worn than the other. Hopefully get a brush assembly or at least the bolt. Alternator as a whole looks like a of a job to pull thanks to bolts mine's mounted on. Put some SVA trim around tight exhaust exit through trim. Interesting amount of sooting in exhaust manifold 😳 Need to get that burnt off! All back together tomorrow (we hope) 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 24 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳
  13. Home at 0150hrs precisely 🙆🏻 and scraped exhaust as car had to go into garage backwards As for Fish and Chips Mr Bramall. Not if you're in the Abbey car park ☹️ Would you abandon ANY car up there at night? Did get to stage of getting local Pizza Co's number but they would have had me as a wind up merchant re. delivery address. Quote: Our millions of members make us by far the largest motoring organisation with some 3,300 highly trained patrols. Quote: My 🙆🏻, so were all 3,300 in bed? 😬 The 'AA Partner company' sent out a tail lift vehicle. I requested a flat bed on first call to AA at half past eight. ☹️ 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 24 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳
  14. Anyone got a cheap 'up North source for K Series alternators. Mine died today stranding me in Whitby. Didn't think the AA outsourced to other recovery firms but they do. Think 5½ hours to get home 80 miles is extracting the urine. Seen thread re. Rover YLE101520, Magenetti Marelli 63321238A / A1151-65 from 96 on Rover 200. Any alternatives that are direct bolt ons? Finally as I have the 4-1 long primary exhaust any tips for removal to allow access to Alternator. Ta Muchly 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 5,400miles, 3 months 24 days, 1 Dead Alternator 😳
  15. Stu Shall do, undecided as to route this weekend so probably post you cheque and collect in next week or so. I have to take in Caterham Midlands on way down or back up. Cheers 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 4,600 miles, 3 months 9 days [:O]
  16. *arrowup*Boing again (until I get sick of it and spend £90 on one) OK Curborough trip cancelled thanks to double booking, so first track experience with my 7 on hold. Looks like I'll have to wait 'til end of race season...... ☹️ 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 4,600 miles, 3 months 9 days [:O]
  17. Ey up Bought a reverse light to fit to car from Midlands and impressed by quick connectors pre fitted, but obviously not meant for my fire hazard EU2 Loom (need the other half 😬). Intend to change all light connectors from dodgy terminal blocks or tape to tidy up (Especially when cut spare carrier off), Anybody done same? whose are Caterham items? Ta muchly 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 4,600 miles, 3 months 9 days [:O]
  18. Testing, with a bottle of Tesco Vina Mara Reserva down !! 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits. 4,600 miles, 3 months 9 days 😳 Edited by - David Lynch on 19 Aug 2005 21:34:00
  19. Myles Beer is truly your friend !!! 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits (and stonechips)
  20. Stu Quandry now. Nah... Probably on way back Monday. Just trying to figure my route out on Autoroute as we speak. Don't fancy carrying a exhaust in passenger seat to Pontypool and back!!! 😳 Old one will be stripped and rebuilt to learn some welding skills. David 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits (and stonechips)
  21. Stu, Sold (just matter of collection). I'll drop you an e-mither. Maybe Monday after epic Wales Blat . Else any excuse to cross pennines the right way !!! Like all, interested in how to seal collector. Small amount of sooting blowing back. Think it's indicative of lack of support at front unlike other systems. Cheers David 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits (and stonechips)
  22. Ta Myles. Looks like could be the one. I'll not bother with a heat shield but will have to weld skid plates on (won't go in garage otherwise). Getting back of collector to seal will be next problem so like the upgraded clamp. Noise? Had any scrutineering dB measurements? 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits (and stonechips)
  23. Hello I have a rather noisy, scratched and patched 5" standard exhaust on a 1.4 SS K Series from 1995. It has the long primaries that come all the way out of the car before first section reducing 4-1 (2" O.D) then final section is (was 😳) Silencer. I measured a Crossflow and a Vauxhall which had same 4-1 section and silencer can (approx 970mm from front 2" joint to rear mount bracket). None of the more modern K's seemed to have anything to suit. Rather than replacing like for like (still is option if cheap one around) Caterham have offered me a Roadsport (Race?) 6" Can (£200+VAT) that fits straight on. If anyone has one of these I'd appreciate a photo. Any alternatives/good reasonable kit car specialists to recommend? 24. Andy, Have a play with the Dip Switches whatever. Sure there's a posting with them somewhere. 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits (and stonechips)
  25. I also have a standard roll bar if anyone wants one for an NTL Donation It's either that or it'll have creeping plants running round it next summer . Pretty good condition, off 95' DeDion 1.4K SS 😬 Blue with white bits (and stonechips)
