  2. Marty, the grey stuff supplied melts after a bit so don't worry. mine is 10 months old and suffers none for lack of it. I'm sure its down to prefferance and the fit of the bonnet. even replaced it 3 months ago and that melted.the grey foam that is not the bonnet Dave
  3. *eek* the oil is coming from gromit possibly the said speedo or just plain p ❗ssing from prop and gear box linkage 😳 😳 trackday at Pembrey next week don't want to miss does sideways count as mileage 🤔 🤔 🤔
  4. *confused* noticed some gearbox oil on floor of garage, could this have some influence on problem. Just had 100 mile blat and seems to be on and off, squeeeeling on tick over that is apart from that car driving very well if not very well driven 😬 😬 😬 Guy my plan was to recieve delivery same time as you and build over winter CC delivered well in advance so had salty winter to drive September and onwards, massive learning curve ice and wet *wink*
  5. Hope the problem is not to terminal at this stage, but my car is on same mileage as 7 heavensoon maybe a batch of dodgey bearings circa April last year As before interested to find result and fix Still squeeling *mad*
  6. 7 heaven soon, how soon will 3000 service be maybe post result back in thread looks like it will be in about 1000 miles so next week then Dave
  7. seems to be from bell housing area, clutch most obvious. When ticking over in gear squeels. when in neutral niose stops 🤔 🤔 apart from staying in neutral any ideas
  8. much abliged for help dave once Stella had gone machanical head got going, the dizzy cap was very different to the last one i looked at circa 1987, but disconected and reconected all leads to and from the very electrical distributor to all the plugs and the splutter is no more Very happy 😬 😬 😬 had to go for huge blat just to make sure it was o.k. cheers dave

    BAD PICK UP

Charlie, not personally, though the upgrade was done at Millwood (not avaliable today) so maybe they had, but the car was going well for 350 miles at all paces 🤔 🤔 still baffled but 2 blats the better for it today *cool*

    BAD PICK UP

as posted yesterday, rev band at 1000/3500 very spluttery and getting worse, is this normal for a 1600ss engine as it has been recently done but problem only started yesterday. have been on trackday and a few blats but this is the first time this splutter has occured. normal tick over and fine at 4000 plus just splutters low down on pull away? anything 🤔 🤔 🤔

    SPLUTTER

everything was o.k. until put super unleaded in on last blat, now it has had time to flow through car splutters from 1000/3500 rpm on acceleration as if fuel is not being injected properly. Could it be the fuel or some other factor? any offers appriciated 1600 ss new engine 1300 miles
  12. tried many polishes over the years on many cars, and went striaght for autoglym for my seven. guess what colour # Always looks good with little efffort
  13. strange one today, went out for blat today very nice, everything going fine then suddenly engine cut out, first time slow pull off at round-a-bout then again 1 mile later going 60 mph. both times just switching the engine back on worked. just seemed odd. 1.6k series 750 miles only any ideas?

    BRAKE LIGHT

I've bled the brakes until the whole system must have gone through but still can not get much pressure on pedal test round streets was concerning as car had little brakes should i keep bleeding until red brake light stops illuminating? or are there any other suggestions. is it possible a leak could be in the system?
  15. last night saw the appearance of a red 7 driving around the cul-de-sac, everything seemed fine but i think the brakes could do with a bleed before i take it for pretest. *smile* Many thanks to all for the help over the build period. the advice and tips have been invaluable as my machanical skills were zero. does the pain from the big grin die down after a while? 😬
  16. *smile* at last the fan works there still seems to be some air in system but i think I'll need to go and buy a 25ltr drum of coolant. the fan cuts in or seems to be more 100' than 92' but it brings the running temp down to 85' this seems ok. oil pressure has dropped slightly under 2 but there is plenty in the engine. any ideas on drying out a fully carpeted garage thanks for all the tips a combination of pretty much all of them has succeeded.
  17. *confused*have taken the bleed screw out and filled the garage with fliud mount etna style, still no fan. the fliuds are gushing out and i am refilling the same amount as coming out. 2/3 litres so far. any other ideas? cannot find anything in the archives.
  18. ☹️ anyone please, just fired up my new built and it sounds perfect. the manual says to run until 92' then fan should cut in. it never the book says air lock contact Caterham. unfortunately they had a power cut. please can anyone advise?
  19. *smile* cheers tony c taped it and i now have a perfect clutch not long to go, how long is the summer going to hold?
  20. *confused*five hours to put in engine yesterday all went well, today fitting clutch cable and the 'bite ' piont won't work as the release fork drops forward. will this fall back on it's own? when oil and electrics connected? very worried as it states on the left novice. ❗ ❗ 🤔 🤔
  21. 😬At last ! the kit is being delivered next week. In what time scale is a steady build going to take (70-100 hours)not that easy to see in real time. Weeks? Months?? Years??? how long before the staple diet of flies basicly any opinions! down by the sea

    Basic Tools

got hands on a torque wrench 30-150lbf.ft /40-200 Nm 1/2 in drive. this is the same drive as most of my sockets. will it cover most settings for new build? it also has calibration certificate. down by the sea
