  1. Hi Jonathon, Are the Caps normally marked with a spec. Halfords doesn't seem to list anything other than "it fits all". Malc.
  2. To clarify - car was perfect for 60 miles of North York Moors driving, temp gauge showing normal throughout, no steam & nothing to suggest anything untoward until in the garage. I also let the car idle for 5 minutes on the drive with the fan running to ensure gradual cooling Malc
  3. Hi Jonathon, Thanks for quick reply. I recall you answered my query in 2012 re replacing the coolant and having done that exercise, since then in early Jan 2013 the car has been perfect on many runs. I suspect it is the cap, but can't find the spec or indeed anyone to supply anything other than Halfords Universal cap at £2.66p ! Is it worth a punt? Malc.
  4. Hi, Can anyone advise me on the following problem - I took my "7" out for a 60 mile run last Sunday and on return home it deposited coolant on the garage floor. Difficult to ascertain how much, probably 150-200mls. I have checked all hoses etc., and have come to the conclusion it has come from the expansion tank. I have looked for a replacement tank / cap on the Caterham website and they don't have anything resembling that fitted to my car (1998 S3 Classic VX 1600 8 valve). Halfords have a new universal Cap for sale. Is it worth trying? Regards, Malc. .
  5. Just bought a Sealey 'Low Entry' Jack for mine. Not light weight so it's probably best for the home garage, but the eBay supplier was brilliant. I received it 25 hours after ordering, tracked delivery, and perfect BNIB condition on receipt. If you want one (no connection with Seller) look here : Linky
  6. Hi Rich, Arrived earlier this week, very pleased. Thanks. Malc.
  7. Hi Rich, just sent you a BM to check if you can still supply an S3 grille ? Regards, Malc.
  8. As someone who posted a query on the Forum a few days ago on the coolant subject and is planning on doing his first hose & coolant replacement this weekend, the threads on this scare me to death. Some people say it is easy, others not so. Given that the basic design of the "Seven" is old technology why is hose/coolant replacement so fraught with airlocks/difficulty? My 14 year old car is running sweet as a nut, but has perished (minor) hoses near the clips. Am I to find replacing one problem creates a bigger issue?
  9. Thanks to one and all for your replies. I've now read through the topics highlighted by Jonathan (thanks for the links) and formed an opinion. Saturday will see the new hoses and coolant installed, then a quick blat to test for leaks et al on Sunday.
  10. My first job of the winter is to change the coolant hoses to the silicone variety. I'm a relative novice and I've been advised to flush the system with "Classic Coolant Cleaner" and then use "Classic Coolant Pre-Mix". Question (1) : do I flush before I change the hoses or after? Question (2) : Any views welcome on the merits of toxic ethylene glycol versus safer propylene glycol? Background - my "7" is 14 years old, only 18 months in my ownership. 13,500 miles from new - Vx 8 valve with Kent Cam (if that makes a difference!). No leaks, no temp probs, runs sweet - just hoses perished.
  11. Dougie, Many thanks for the uploaded images - very helpful. My reflectors arrived today, so will be modifying over the weekend. regards, Malc
  12. Thanks John. I'll give Carl a call and get a slot booked.
  13. Hi to one and all. I'm a recent member , although I bought my 'Seven' almost ten months ago. It's now coming up for a full service & MOT. I'm torn between doing the work & submitting for the MOT, or entrusting a garage to do it all - recommendations appreciated. (1998, Vx 8 valve with Kent Cam, LSD, 6 speed box, uprated discs all round).
