  1. Rears looked in good nick, chassis rails seemed ok etc.. Front was less good, powder coating long gone - lots of surface rust - nothing serious I think - just needs attending too Any recomendations on how to make good chassis without stripping and sending back to arch? I was planning on flapwheeling all the rust away and then daubing on various rust stabilisers - zinc paints and hamerites etc... Advice greatfuly received
  2. I've just bought a car 55K miles 1.4SS First job is obviously to give the car a tip top service before I wrap it around the first tree. I'm thinking so far that the bilsteins are probably seen better days - upgrade as necessary the cam belt will need changing filter and fluid changes all round good brake inspection - upgrade as necessary rear bushes being done at the moment What else should I check/topup/change/upgrade etc...
  3. best clean it then, when I get the car in a few weeks it'll be on 55K miles.

    Hi Spec brakes

Just read several old threads on the whys and wherefores of big brakes kits :- Alcon, AP, Hi Spec Wilwood etc... The hi-spec kit seemed like good value. Anyone care to enlighten where you can get hold of these? I tried the Hi Spec Big Brakes website but it seems to be down. Ta.
  5. where to buy this cleaning fluid and oil? That'll be one of the first jobs on my new Caterham. Well new to me anyway.

    Biofuels

biodiesel is becoming very popular on the continent. Currently it only contains 5% fuel derived from biomass. It is coming over here nowish too. Many of the car manufacturers are very nervous of using fuel with more than 5% bio as it can cause issues with various engine seals. Lots of arguement is taking place between the legislators and the people who use and specify fuel quality. I also hear that the economics do not necessarily stack up and that many of the oil companies are looking for more cost effective ways to introduce biomass into the fuel stream. They can use it to introduce into the processes to make fuel rather than just blend it in with existing fuel. My user name might give you some clue as to who I work for.
  7. Yeah but the new 15" jobbies do look a bit nice! Apparently they are quite light too. The R300 review in low flying last month seemed surprised how good they were. Not on the track though.
  8. Overfilling with oil is actually potentially dangerous. It can 'pull-over' and burn in the combustion chamber resulting in run-on. So not a good idea.
  9. secondhand VVC eh? where? how much? history etc..?
  10. any comparisons of the freestyle (avo) dampers with leda dampers from james whiting?
