Soak some of the liquid on a piece of kitchen toll the drip a drop of water on the patch. Disappears its water globules its oil. -

Undo the securing bolts and move the tube away from engine. If it leaks after separation in the same place it will be coming from cam cover. If it follows coolant tube its water. -

If its gone through the lacquer and the colour coat through to the primer there is nothing that will make it disappear. If its just gone through the laquer you can try rubbing down with wet and dry and spray with laquer. You can cut a small hole in some cardboard hold it an inch or so away and lightly spray through the cardboard so you get feathered edges.

Thanks Paul that one was on my shortlist. Debating myself whether that would be the case now you have confirmed it. Just wondering whether a piece of cardboard to lie on and a stool to sit on would be better. Is that what you do?

Could the the rivets not be replaced with screws and trap-nuts or self tappers.

Yes Ive seen them with quite a deep groove encircling the yokeend shaft.

What sort off mileage do the seals start leaking. The old cortina/anglia boxes would probably last till about 20,000 before leaking. Breather blocked didnt help.

Once the seal is replaced there should be no leakage at all with modern seals.
