  1. You could visit the Oxford area on Tueday 1st December , we are a hands on bunch with a great selection of older cars. PS Don't bother with the spraying just drive it for a year and sort out the running gear etc then decide next winter if its money well spent Brian 7 S2 , 7 S4 and Lotus 51 FF
  2. Or it could be an 1961 BMC A engined Series 2 . Brian Soper
  3. The AVOs have adjustable spring seats so you can set your ride height below is a link to there web site ,( They also list Lotus 7 as well , I had to modify my rear lower mountings to fit to my series 2 but I am still using the old 'Standard' axle etc) I also purchased my springs from them . Old springs are not worth using I always change springs and shocks together .I am not sure how old your units are but even not used and standing they age and deteroirate http://www.avouk.com/CatalogueFrameset-84.htm Brian
  4. I suggest your Spax shockers and springs are old and worn out , as others have said 15 clicks from fully anti clock wise min setting. In 28 years plus of using Spax I never used more than 2/3 clicks rear and perhaps 1/2 front. I changed to AVOs 3 years ago best thing I ever done the suspension actually works now!! kept the spring rates low 175 front 125 rear (my cars a A series engined series 2) Brian
  5. As used in my S2 'post it note' stuck to transmission tunnel Totally reliable easy to programme just remember to use water proof ink Brian
  6. The Ital axle is the same design as the old Standard axle from the series 2 , the trick is to use a press to remove the hub , pullers will damage the hub as its a very light construction. Load up press with the bearing /hub to remove to a few tons only ( leave the hub nut loose so everything does not fly everywhere) and then give the hub a large tap with a brass drift and big lump hammer, works every time!!. no need for heat or excess pressure its the shock that breaks the sticktion. Before your build up again lap the hub and half shaft taper with grinding paste , throughly clean before assembling with a new key , this gets an excellent fit for the hub and shaft as any movement will eventually damage the key way and taper . Fit a new hub nut and torque up and use loctite if you do recheck hub nut remember to slacken off first add more loctite Any further help just ask Brian L7 S2

  9. Turn fully anti clock wise then turn clock wise until feel first positive click thats your soft setting road use, try 4 or 5 clicks first then more if required on track.I found after about 6 click nothing changed!!! After 25 years with Spax I first had suspension that worked when I fitted AVOs !!! Brian

  11. Having run a A series in my 7 for the last 28 years, plus having had a A series cars since 1970 !! I have never heard of it !!. If the engine is worn then a top end overhaul will give it new lease of life. A compression check will indicate any valve problems etc or worn bores etc The plugs will indicate if the engine is set up OK Contact me if you need any advice Brian
