  1. It's an earth and connected to the wingstay. Looks like it wasn't damaged in the wing flapping incident as there aren't any marks or changes to where it is connected. From what I can see on the other side (that is working), the earth is connected to the wingstay in the same way. Might prod it a bit on Saturday just to check. I've been on caterhamparts.co.uk and it looks like it comes as a sealed unit with the wire already integrated which is annoying. If it is buggered, I'll either need to splice some wires (not easy to weatherproof given the position) or probably the better approach is just to suck it up and install the new unit and wire in total (having dug around the engine bay to work out where it connects to). https://caterhamparts.co.uk/indicators/4922-side-repeater-led-light.html Grrr.
  2. The indicator light on the wing has stopped working so I need to swap it out - however it seems to be a sealed unit and I can't see how to get into it to disconnect the wires. Clearly I'm missing something but I can't work it out and don't want to get too brutal with it yet. Any ideas on how the wires disconnect? Bit of background as to why its stopped working... For some reason the previous owned riveted the left front wing on rather than using Sikaflex or something like that (the other wing is attached as usual with Sikaflex). Went a little wide on Stowe and went over the curb with the left wheel - nothing too bad, but the vibration was enough to make the rivets fail (on closer inspection they were very well fatigued) and the wing was flapping around till I slowed down and got into the pits. The indicator light on the wing was working before and the main left indicator works (as do both right indicators) so I suspect flapping about has wrecked it. The wing is pretty tatty thanks to that, but its structurally sound and with a novice season in the speed championship coming up I'm not going to buy another one just yet lest I wreck it.
  3. Just got an email, think they have some cancellations so are opening up a few more places. Now paid and should be there!
  4. Just had an email saying they can't offer me a place this year as its very oversubscribed
  5. Last question from me (hopefully) - given the government guidance, it looks like hotel stays won't be allowed before the 17th May, only self contained accommodation. Which sounds expensive for a night between the events! If I camp I shall be under canvas (or whatever plastic type material tents are made out of now) rather than in a motorhome or anything like that. Do I need to book, if so who would I contact?
  6. A note of caution - in fitting DRE shift lights to my 2016 roadsport (should be the same as a 2016 academy for wiring), on the unit I had to set the cylinders to 1 rather than 4 as it says in the instructions. Took me ages to work that out, thinking I had tapped the wrong wire. Worth considering when fitting! I'd try the 4 cylinder setting first, but consider 1 cylinder if that doesn't work.
  7. Thanks chaps. Camping sound like it might be worth investigating as well as the Travelodge (think I've stayed there in the dim and distant past)
  8. Done - anyone have any recommendations for a B&B that would be friendly to a Caterham on a trailer for the Saturday night?
  9. Maybe we could sync up and do a back to back test between an SV and S3 for Alan ? (and selfishly I can drool over a your 420R )
  10. Hi all - just wanted to check that apart from our two Curbourough events, none of the others on the calendar have entries open yet? Have signed up via loveadmin to our ones, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing the others!
  11. "I'm in Hemel so perhaps once the lock down is sorted I could pop over?" Of course, no problem. I'll send you my mobile number so we can arrange logistics
  12. Where are you in herts Alan? Happy to pop over with my S3 to try out the seats once this damn lockdown is eased if you're not far away (I'm near Watford)
  13. I've also been looking at helmets and GPR Direct (the website for the company who have a shop just next to the main gate at Silverstone) say on their website that you can return: "Not sure if you are purchasing the correct size helmet? GPR will collect, exchange and redeliver your helmet for FREE on all helmets over £200 ex! UK mainland only." www.gprdirect.com
  14. Great news, but my wife's birthday is the 4th October. I wonder if watching me drive at Anglesey is a sufficient birthday present?
  15. If only there were room in my garage for another 7....
  16. "Welcome Andy and when you arrive in the paddock there will be no shortage of advice!" Thanks Graham. I'll be in need of a lot of advice! I'll be easy to spot - I'll be the one staring at the timesheets wondering if there is an issue with the timekeeping as there should be no way I could be that slow!
  17. Thanks for the replies chaps. All sorted on the overalls and gloves as I bought them last year with a view to doing some events this year but I bought my helment in 2008 and while it met the standard then, clearly safety moves on! Have signed up via LoveAdmin to the championship and Curborough so far - just negotiating with my wife how many of the other events I can get to! See you in the paddock!
  18. Apologies for the thread resurrection again. Have finally navigated the UK Motorsport website to apply for a licence (ugh - I suspect it was designed by a fan of Kafka's work) I have a couple of small questions that I;ve nonetheless not been able to find answers to: - Family life means I'll only make some of the rounds. My aim is not to be in last place in at least one of the events so missing championship points is not going to be a problem - think of me as Williams in F1 this 2020, just trying not be last all the time! Is it considered bad form to miss some of the rounds? - Once I've signed up and paid my £30, how do I book on to an event and how much do they cost? Via LoveAdmin in the same way as booking a track day? - Is there a British Standard for the helmet? I have a helmet that adheres to BS6658-85 but I've had it a few years and I know these things move on. Can't see anything in the regs that specify something - I see the diagram for the timing strut on the website but it doesn't make any sense to me. Have had a search through blatchat, but are there any pics of one attached to a car? Does it just attach via bolts to the grill in the nosecone? I assume a nice pre-made one can be bought here: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/nose-cones/1936-timing-strut-fits-to-nosecone.html Sorry if these have been answered elsewhere and I;ve not found them - have had a look through the articles in LowFlying (including the last two issues) so questions like car class (I'll be in Class 2) and what tyres (I've got a set from List 1a already) are sorted!
  19. Ah, thanks. Looks like from the guidance that as I'm 42 but haven't held a licence before I need to have a vision test to apply. I must say, the guidance on the Motorsport UK website could be a lot clearer than some small notes section that's buried in section 4 on the licence application itself
  20. Rather than create my own thread, I thought I would add to this one.... Also thinking about doing some sprinting in 2021 but confused by which of the MSA licences that I would need. Is it just the RS Clubman Licence or one of the others? The club regulations state: 1.3.1 Entrants must be fully paid-up valid membership card holding members of the Lotus Seven Club and in possession of a current Motorsport UK Entrants Licence. Looking on the Motorsport UK site there isn't a licence called "UK Entrants Licence", and "Chart 26: Competitors Minimum Acceptable Licences" from their website would suggest that a Clubman licence is not sufficient for sprints or hillclimbs. So I would need to look at a 'National' licence which would need a vision test and a medical report I think? Unless I have missed something?
